Some of our favorite professional skaters have made it to the big screen, and some of them have also managed to make their "big breaks" and then go on to make their way in show business and have successfully landed a number of roles and special roles in Hollywood films.
Here are 5 examples of well-known skaters/actors that you might recognize on a skateboard or on the big screen!
Jason Lee
Jason Lee is the founder of Stereo Skateboards and a pioneer in street skateboarding, having played the lead character Earl in the hit TV series My Name Is Earl. He played the role for several years, starring in a total of 9 seasons until the show was unfortunately canceled.
After that, Jason managed to get more roles in Hollywood, such as "Alvin and the Chipmunks", and he also played the lead role of Dave in this film. Surprisingly, Jason voices both heroes and villains in Disney films: he voices the main character in "Underdog" and the madman "Syndrome" in Disney/Pixar's "The Incredibles."
Mike Vallely
Mike Vallely starred in the legendary film Paul Blart: Mall Cop, alongside the famous actor Kevin James. In this film, Mike takes on the role of a skateboarding outlaw who is part of this bizarre action-sports heist gang who robs a large amount of items and cash while terrorizing the staff (especially Kevin James).
Other films Mike has worked on include xXx (starring Dwayne Johnson) and The Hangover, in which he is seen speeding down the highway as he pulls a package out of the sliding door of a van and hands it to the boys.
Rob Dyrdek
Nowadays, whether you like skateboarding or not, everyone is familiar with Rob Dyrdek, who can be found everywhere and his most popular performance is on his hit TV show, Ridiculousness (MTV).
He also starred in films such as Street Dreams (where he also wrote, directed, and cast an agent), Rob & Big, another hit TV show and a spin-off of a 2003 clip for DC Shoes, in which Rob introduced Big (RIP) as his personal security guard, dealing with security guards in order to complete missions in hard-to-slide locations and shoot trick videos.
Nowadays, Rob is known mainly because of the successful series he hosted, the Street League, of which he was also one of the founders. Street League is a series of intense skateboarding competitions where successful competitors earn life-changing cash prizes and the chance to advance to more competitions, potentially qualifying for the Olympic Games.
Ryan Sheckler
Ryan Sheckler was the prototype of the skateboarding prodigy, but his fame skyrocketed after the airing of his reality TV show Life Ryan, which aired in 2007. He went on to star in the Hollywood films Tooth Fairy and Street Dreams (as mentioned by Rob Dyrdek above).
