……

The world needs science, and science needs women.

This year, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the "China Young Women Scientist Award", L'Oréal continues to sing the song of "She Power" in the field of scientific research, inspiring more people with the spirit of science and the power of women through multiple forms, so that the "power of women" can shine from generation to generation.

On April 28, the 19th "China Young Women Scientist Award" award ceremony was held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, jointly organized by the All-China Women's Federation, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and L'Oréal China.

At the scene, Chen Yiqin, State Councilor and President of the All-China Women's Federation, Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Party Group, Vice Chairman and First Secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation, He Junke, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, Vice Chairman in charge of Daily Work and First Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Wang Jinjin, Member of the Party Group and Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Qin Changwei, Secretary-General of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, and Bo Wanshang, President of L'Oréal North Asia and CEO of China, attended the award ceremony and presented awards to the winning female scientists. 01 +30%, the scale reached a new high

As an extension of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme in China, the Young Women in China Award was launched in 2004 by the four partners and has become a national award for women scientists and technicians.

Over the past 19 years, the award has continued to expand the scale of recognition, from 5 individual awards per session to 20 people now, and has played a significant role in cultivating, discovering and recommending outstanding female scientific and technological workers. This year, the number of nominated candidates and teams reached a new high, reaching nearly 1,300, an increase of more than 30% compared to the previous year.

So far, a total of 204 female researchers have won individual awards. Among them, 13 have been elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and among the 6 women newly elected as academicians in 2023, 4 people, including Li Hui, Yan Ning, Duan Huiling, and Chen Chunying, have won awards, demonstrating the authority and influence of the awards.

In addition, the award also carries an international platform to support China's wisdom on the global stage, and uses science as a link to build a bridge for international exchanges. Among the previous winners, 7 have won the "World Outstanding Women Scientist Achievement Award", and with the support of the award, they are open to communication with top scholars around the world.

It is worth mentioning that this year's winners are not only widely distributed in the eastern, northeastern, central and western regions, but also maintain a basic balance in various disciplines. For example, there is Chen Siyu, a professor at Lanzhou University who has developed the mechanism of sand formation around the complex feedback of sand and dust aerosols and weather and climate, and Chen Ting, a researcher at the Beijing Institute of Biological Sciences, who has revealed the symmetrical culprit of vitiligo.

In addition, facing the main battlefield of the economy, in the blue ocean of scientific research such as big data and new energy, as well as facing the world's frontier of science and technology, in the fields of information network and intelligent control, Chinese female scientists have contributed to the strength of women.

02 The "Science and Technology Girls Empowerment Program" was launched

"I hope that the majority of female scientists will carry forward the spirit of scientists, bravely climb the peak of science and technology with the pride and efforts of women, and be determined to serve the country with science and technology. Chen Yiqin, state councilor and president of the All-China Women's Federation, said.

He Junke, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the China Association for Science and Technology, Vice Chairman in charge of daily work, and First Secretary of the Secretariat, also said, "The majority of young female scientific and technological workers represented by the awardees, from the laboratory to the field, from basic research to the front line of engineering, from enterprises and institutes to universities and hospitals, are flashing their wisdom and hard work everywhere, and showing the bright style and pioneer power of new women in the new era." ”

In order to continue the "scientific spirit" from generation to generation, L'Oréal also officially launched the "Science and Technology Girls Empowerment Program" this month, creating a platform for secondary school girls to communicate with female scientists, and has launched the first round of activities in Gansu and Beijing.

At the award ceremony, the "Science and Technology Girls Empowerment Program" also specially invited science and technology girls from Beijing and Shanghai to watch the ceremony, interact with the representatives of the award-winning female scientists, and jointly record a public welfare video.

In L'Oréal's view, girls are at the embryonic stage of their interests and ideals, and the in-depth face-to-face communication with female scientists not only planted the seeds of science in their hearts, but also inspired them to pursue the light for a long time with curiosity about the unknown and persistence in love.

Regarding the Girls in Technology Empowerment Program, Lan Zhenzhen, President of Public Affairs of L'Oréal North Asia and China, said in the group interview that the project is mainly divided into three steps:

First, please come in. "L'Oréal has invited our women scientists to the school to give them science lessons, so that the female students can see for themselves that their lecturers are women scientists, and that they can be like that. ”

Second, go out. By bringing the students to the laboratories of female scientists, they can see and experience them for themselves.

Third, the type of broadcasting. L'Oréal invited female scientists to record some video courseware on science and popular science education, so that their ideas and spirit can be disseminated not only to places where they can go in person, but also to more schools across China.

"I hope that through such a generational approach, on the basis of the World Outstanding Women Scientists at the global level and the Chinese Young Women Scientists Award at the Chinese level, we will start the Empowerment Program for Women in Science and Technology in China, so that we can shine from generation to generation and let our female scientific research strength be inherited. Lan Zhenzhen said.

03 More than women's empowerment

L'Oréal, for tomorrow

"We believe that the world will become more diverse and better because of women's participation, not just for women, but for us, for everyone. ”

"This year marks the 115th anniversary of the L'Oréal Group, and L'Oréal will continue to uphold its scientific DNA and empower all women, including women researchers and female students aspiring to study science, with the power of beauty to move the world. ”

L'Oréal has been on this project for 20 years

In fact, since entering the Chinese market in 1997, L'Oréal has always adhered to one thing: to "create beauty and let the world move" in China. Whether it is empowering women in science with practical actions, or devoting itself to the development of people-to-people exchanges, artistic creation, scientific and technological innovation, and sustainable development, it can be traced back to the purpose of "creating beauty and making the world move".

In terms of social responsibility, in 2020, L'Oréal launched its new sustainability strategy, "L'Oréal for Tomorrow", which empowers society and creates a sustainable ecosystem for L'Oréal on the basis of building a more sustainable business model.

In an interview, Bowanshang said, "Under the big project goal of 'L'Oréal, for tomorrow', we hope to help society develop in a greener and more sustainable direction through the company's capabilities." This includes the reduction of CO2 emissions, the use of water, the recycling of energy, and so on. In addition, L'Oréal is launching products with sustainable green ingredients through the use of green ingredients or in collaboration with responsible suppliers and global partners. ”

He pointed out that as early as 2019, L'Oréal China achieved 100% clean energy in all its operations, "and it all stems from our fundamental idea that we focus on financial development on the one hand, and social and environmental impact on the other." ”

For example, L'Oréal's Smart Operations Centre in China, which was launched on April 26, has been powered by 100% renewable energy from day one.

In the final analysis, L'Oréal, as the world's leading beauty company with a strong sense of social responsibility, has already set a "model" for the Chinese beauty market in all aspects.
