In the early 90s of last century, when many private enterprises were still wandering at the "crossroads" of reform and opening up, Shengda unexpectedly but unusually firmly embarked on a development road of "nesting and attracting phoenixes" to attract foreign investment.
In 1992, Shengda introduced 3.66 million US dollars of foreign capital, purchased a number of imported equipment, and comprehensively transformed the company's paper packaging production line. The scale of the introduction of foreign capital was rare in the whole of Zhejiang at that time, and helped Shengda to exceed 100 million yuan in output value and sales in the second year. "This is the first step of Shengda's most successful step. Fang Wuxiao, the founder of Shengda, said with a lot of recollection.
Where did the motivation for taking this step come from? Fang Wuxiao said that in Deng Xiaoping's speech on his southern tour, "the courage of reform and opening up should be greater, and the pace should be a little faster!"
In July 1997, Shengda's second production base Xiaoshan Bada Carton Factory was put into operation, and two years later, the third production base Zhejiang Xinshengda Packaging Co., Ltd. rose from the ground, and then introduced the world's most advanced BHS fully intelligent corrugated cardboard production line from Germany, with an investment of more than 80 million yuan. This year, Shengda Group became the third leading packaging enterprise in China. In 2003, the fourth production base was planned on 50 acres of land in Wuzhong District, Suzhou.
The bold reform and innovation have made Shengda, which has tasted the sweetness, move forward more firmly, and then embark on a road from informatization, digitalization, to intelligence.
Informatization is the foundation, digitalization is the direction, and intelligence is the future.
And the road to the future, Shengda has walked for at least 22 years.
In 2001, Zhejiang Xinshengda Packaging Co., Ltd. (the predecessor of Dashengda) started the pace of information construction, "at that time, the company developed very rapidly, received a lot of orders, but all relied on paper manual billing, even the delivery is also manual list. There is no information management means, and the development of the company is not matched. Yang Delong, director of the Dashengda Information Center, recalled.
Since then, the company has comprehensively promoted informatization projects, and has successively realized the informatization management of specific businesses such as finance, transportation, office, and archives.
In 2005, Shengda established a R&D department to independently develop the carton box ERP system. Through real-time collection and analysis of production data, this system can help enterprises accurately grasp the production progress, material consumption, equipment status and other information, and can also intelligently schedule production resources and optimize the production process according to market demand and production plan.
Until 2019, Dashengda's digital intelligent factory was put into operation, realizing the intelligence of eight aspects: process, process, logistics, procurement, central control, product testing, energy consumption monitoring, and business. From the original factory production of 400 people, it has been reduced to only 80 people, and the annual output can reach 8-10 billion.
Overnight, Dashengda intelligent factory has become a benchmark for peers across the country to visit and learn.
Intelligence has greatly liberated the labor force, and also allowed Dashengda to maintain the stable operation of the production line and meet the packaging needs of epidemic prevention materials in a timely manner in the early stage of epidemic prevention and control, when many small and medium-sized enterprises encountered many difficulties.
In 2021, Dashengda was selected into the list of "Future Factory" in Zhejiang Province, and with rapid response to the personalized needs of users as the core, it created a new "12810" production and manufacturing model of large-scale personalized customization of paper packaging, that is, product sales "1 hour order demand response, 2 hours order receiving, 8 hours production line production, 10 hours order delivery", product service "1 hour complaint response, 2 hours company linkage, 8 hours problem response, 10 hours problem solving".
In the vast world of the paper packaging industry, Dashengda has cultivated this unique set of "real kung fu on paper", and the products it produces have also become the only export inspection-free products of China's paper packaging.
In the list of high-quality customers that Dashengda has cooperated with for a long time, there are internationally renowned Samsung, Panasonic, Bosch, Wal-Mart, Shell, IKEA and other Fortune 500 companies, as well as top domestic brands such as SF, Wahaha, Nongfu Spring, Robam Appliances, Supor and so on.
While accelerating the increase of production capacity, the pace of Dashengda's external expansion is also firm and powerful.
The unit price of corrugated boxes is low, and it is sensitive to transportation costs, and the transportation radius is generally within 300 kilometers. Downstream leading enterprises such as home appliances often require suppliers to be able to meet the packaging needs of their multiple production bases. Therefore, the distribution of Dashengda's production base in China has been mainly concentrated in East China, and has slowly extended to Jiangsu, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hainan, Xinjiang and other places, advancing steadily and promoting stability.

Shengdaneng's endurance for more than 40 years comes from its dedication to "green manufacturing".
Paper packaging, if you are only satisfied with "packing" and "loading" well, will not be poor for decades. What Dashengda wants to do is not only to package items, but also to carry the concept of green development.
Towards "green", Shengda actually started in the 80s of the last century when the company was founded. Like most traditional enterprises, this is a gradual process, from following the country's major policies at the beginning, to gradually awakening and taking the initiative to practice. Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the concept of green development has become more and more popular, and more and more leading enterprises in the industry such as Shengda have raised "green development" as the core concept and important strategy of enterprise development.
Compared with other industries, paper packaging products have a shorter service cycle, larger consumption, and a more significant impact on the environment, so they also have more responsibility and mission to take the road of "green manufacturing" and "green development".
In 2008, the state began to implement the "plastic restriction order", plastic bags, plastic foam and other materials were included in the restriction list, and the entire packaging material industry is facing new challenges.
As we all know, water is the nemesis of paper, and paper is easy to become soft under the erosion of water, and even damaged and dissolved. If you want the paper packaging to be water-impermeable, the usual practice is to paste a layer of plastic material on the inner wall of the carton.
However, in the summer of 2019, the R&D team of Dashengda encountered an unprecedented test. The company received a large number of complaints from customers complaining that the packaging of the courier transporting the seafood was damaged, resulting in the spoilage of the food inside.
On the one hand, to comply with the "plastic restriction order", and on the other hand, it is related to the long-term stable cooperation of customers, and the R&D team began to bury their heads in looking for a waterproof material that is both waterproof and safe and non-toxic.
In fact, there are many mature waterproof materials on the market, such as aluminized strips and aluminized films, but these materials will not only increase the manufacturing cost of cartons, but also make it difficult to separate the aluminum film in the process of recycling. What Shengda wants is a greener and more environmentally friendly way.
"You see, when water falls on the lotus leaf, it will form water droplets that slide down, and the leaves will not penetrate. Huang Yuqi, deputy director of Dashengda Technology Center, and his R&D team thought of adding a layer of material with hydrophobic properties to the inner wall of the carton from the hydrophobic phenomenon on the surface of the lotus leaf.
After more than a year, they tested hundreds of waterproof materials, and after continuous testing and proportioning, finally one waterproof oil passed all the tests. This water-repellent oil is made by adding highly hydrophobic silicone-containing and fluorine-containing modified substances to the dry acrylic resin, thereby greatly improving the water-repellent performance of paper packaging.
During that time, there was an alternative "paper fish tank" in the technology center, and the inner wall of the carton was smeared with the team's latest research results. Feeding a few goldfish inside every day is not only to test the waterproofness and durability of the cartons, but also to verify whether the goldfish can survive safely.
The experiment of "paper fish tank" was successful, and the carton packaging with superhydrophobicity also met the customer's requirements.
This new breakthrough in waterproof technology not only solves the packaging problem in the process of seafood transportation, but also opens up new possibilities for the diversified application of paper products.
But the R&D team wasn't satisfied: if they could find a safe and non-toxic waterproof material, could they also design a fireproof package?
Considering the safety of cartons in high temperatures or flammable and explosive environments, they kept looking in another direction. A fireproof packaging material with flame retardant properties and high temperature resistance was soon introduced to the market by Dashengda.
The customer's perspective is also the driving force for innovation. How to escort the valuables in the carton and avoid damage during transportation? How to reduce the use of plastic foam as a shock absorber to reduce the pollution to the environment? After countless compression tests, the R&D team found that the use of corrugated paper design scheme can not only effectively slow down the collision between items, but also save tens of millions of yuan in costs for customers every year.
Replace wood with paper, reduce at the source, recycle, and replace plastic with paper...... In Shengda, a small carton is not only a simple packaging, but a manifestation of technical strength in the field of packaging and a weapon of market competition.
In July 2021 and December 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission and the China Packaging Federation successively issued the "14th Five-Year Plan" for the Development of Circular Economy and the "China Packaging Industry Development Plan (2021-2025)", proposing to promote the green transformation process of the packaging industry, "highlighting the leading role of green and low-carbon circular transformation in the deep transformation and sustainable development of the industry, and accelerating the construction of a green development system covering the whole life cycle of packaging." ”
The release of these two important documents has further strengthened the pace of Shengda to take the road of "green packaging".
Starting from the countryside of Xiaoshan, the thin layer of wrapping paper in the hands of Shengda people drifted to the whole country with green wind and waves, and floated to the coast of the South China Sea at the "end of the world".
In Haikou in April, sugarcane is thriving, and sugarcane forests swaying in the wind can be seen everywhere. After the surplus sugarcane here is used by the locals to squeeze juice, refine sugar, and make soup, the waste bagasse has been given a new value by Dashengda - in August 2023, Dashengda invested 500 million yuan to build a pulp molding base in Hainan and was completed and put into operation. Here, bagasse and wheat straw are crushed into slurry, formed by heat and pressure, and then laminated, trimmed, disinfected and other processes to become biodegradable environmentally friendly lunch boxes, paper cups and trays.
Green environmental protection has always been the poetry and distance in the hearts of Shengda people.

"Only by actively embracing the digital economy and promoting the upgrading and development of the traditional manufacturing industry can enterprises take off again. These high-achieving students walked into Dashengda, came to the workshop, and commuted with the workers, and the research was more than half a year.
Compared with the traditional industry-university-research cooperation, the joint laboratory cleverly transforms the "relationship between Party A and Party B" into a "family relationship", and the two sides jointly fund 4:1 to organically combine the social benefits of the institute with the economic benefits of the enterprise. At the same time, in order to help manufacturing enterprises solve the talent problem, the institute adopts the mode of jointly setting up a R&D team with enterprises and settling in the institute full-time, and uses the platform of Peking University to help enterprises attract high-end talents.
In the past three years, these information technology talents have opened up the headquarters of Dashengda Group and more than 10 production bases from front-end business, mid-end production to back-end logistics, payment collection and other scenarios, and used the XiUOS industrial IoT operating system and industrial big data operating system independently developed by the intelligent software center as the basic technical support and development framework to quickly realize the whole process of digital, visualized and intelligent remote control.
Just this year, the "Epack-ET Paper Packaging Industrial Internet Platform" independently developed by the joint laboratory was included in the key industrial Internet platform of Zhejiang Province. By building end-to-end digital solutions, the platform has precipitated the overall construction model of "1+1+1", that is, it has built "a nationwide packaging flexible supply chain rapid response front desk, an online business intelligent processing middle platform, and a flexible small batch customized production management digital SaaS matrix", which can help small and medium-sized enterprises quickly realize digital transformation and empower the supporting upgrade of the whole link of the industry.
The platform has successively launched more than 200 industrial app applications in the packaging industry, quickly helping factories realize the digital transformation of key links, and empowering more than 9,700 factories in total.
AI packaging designer "Xiaofang" is also a new fruit of the joint laboratory in 2021. This is the industry's first vertical application of AIGC large model. By learning a large number of packaging design cases and user needs, "Xiaofang" can automatically generate packaging design solutions that meet the requirements, and carry out automatic intelligent typesetting, intelligent color matching, intelligent prepress detection and intelligent ingredient recommendation, shortening the packaging design time that usually takes 3-5 days to complete in the past to 3-5 minutes. Today, the overall design efficiency of version 2.0 of "Xiaofang" has been increased by 80%, and it can fully realize that the demand is received in the morning and production starts in the afternoon. "Xiaofang" 3.0 is also in the pipeline.
Based on the digital platform, the joint laboratory has also independently developed the "Business Exploration" App. This application brings together the industry's large-scale basic data sources, built-in rich enterprise details and enterprise portrait data, and through the intelligent scene computing engine, it can accurately mine potential customers and track the dynamics of peers. When the salesman completes the task on a business trip, if he still has time, he can use the "business exploration" to view the information of manufacturers and customers within a few kilometers of the surrounding area, so as to facilitate the nearby visit and improve the efficiency of business development. This new type of business development tool is a huge hit in the industry.
From aggregating data, to optimizing the supply chain, to the industrial ecological digital services such as "small parties" and "business exploration", the cooperation between Dashengda and the Information Research Institute of Peking University is getting wider and wider, and the prospects are full of imagination.
