In the early morning, a figure observes and records the dynamics of the forest at the fire lookout. He is an ecological ranger at the Luyang State-owned Forest Farm in Huaihua City, and his name is Yuan Zhangqing. He and his wife have lived in a shack deep in the mountains for a long time.
"The fire lookout is my home. Not only do I have to guard more than 2,000 acres of forest, but I also have to observe all the forests in the 20,000 acres of visual area from the lookout. Yuan Zhangqing talked about his daily work while picking up the garbage left on the roadside. In Yuan Zhangqing's own words, being a forest ranger is a lonely and boring job. Over the years, Yuan Zhangqing has written more than 150 forest protection records and patrolled 160,000 kilometers.
