More than 60 sketches and paintings of Pu Xinqi of "South Zhang and North Pu" were unveiled in the Gongwangfu Museum

On April 29th, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Prince Gong's Mansion Museum, the "Ancient Songs - Prince Gong's Mansion Museum Collection Pu Xinji Painting Research Exhibition" opened in the Le Dao Hall of Prince Gong's Mansion Museum. A total of 35 Pu Xinji's drawings and 28 complete paintings by Pu Xinji collected by Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall, Hunan Museum, Capital Museum, Beijing Art Museum, CAFA Art Museum and Prince Gong's Mansion Museum are on display, most of which 13 works in the collection of Hunan Museum are open to the public for the first time.

Pu Xinqi (1896-1963), known as Ai Xinjueluo Puru, was known as Xinjueluo Puru. The grandson of Prince Gong Yiyi, the second son of Baylor Zaiying. An important modern painter in mainland China. He has profound attainments in literature and history, poetry, calligraphy, and painting, and has a great influence on the Chinese painting circle in the 20th century. Prince Gong's Mansion is the place where Pu Xinji grew up since he was a child, and it is here that he has laid a solid foundation for the profound cultivation of traditional culture.

Wang Jing, deputy director of Prince Gong's Mansion Museum of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said that since its establishment, Prince Gong's Mansion Museum has continued to carry out research related to Pu Xinji, and has gradually become one of the important collections of Pu Xinji's paintings in mainland China. In recent years, on the basis of the results of historical research, taking Pu Xinji's sketches as the research object, further digging from the perspective of Chinese painting creation methodology, since 2021, with the titles of "Nine Decays and One Strike" and "Zeng Won a Good Horse", two consecutive "Pu Xinji's Sketches Research Exhibition" have been held, showing the progress of Pu Xinji's sketches research from the perspectives of the overall appearance and function of the sketches in the collection, as well as the copying, sketching, and creation topics of the sketches on the theme of pommel horses, which have been welcomed and loved by the audience.

As a staged summary of the series of exhibitions, this exhibition shows the function of Pu Xinji's drawings in the process of generating his paintings, as well as his thinking and practice in inheriting the ancients and creative transformation, through the comparative analysis of the sketches and the complete paintings.

The exhibition is divided into three sections: "Confident: Sketches in the Formation of Pu Xinji's Paintings", "Thousands of Miles Unsatisfied: Pu Xinji's Sketches", and "Cultivation and Mind-Strength: Resources, Methods and Objectives of Pu Xinji's Sketches". The main title is taken from the two sentences of the Tang Poetry Union in Pu Xinji's book collection, "Drawing on the Ancient to Repair the Silk" and "Singing with a Heart", indicating the relationship between inheriting excellent traditional culture and innovative development.

In line with the International Museum Day theme of "Museums Committed to Education and Research", the exhibition is accompanied by a number of sustainable public education courses. At the opening ceremony, the creative results of the painting course "Into the Landscape" designed for primary school students were displayed, and the guests who participated in the opening ceremony completed the final step of the students' creative results, putting together 8 groups of works into a complete picture as the opening of the exhibition.

The exhibition will last until July 21, 2024.
