Zhou Yi Ding Hexagram

author:Zen healing

ding

"Ding" was originally a cooking vessel for cooking food, and in the Shang and Zhou dynasties, it was mainly used by the Son of Heaven and nobles in the temple to worship their ancestors. So the tripod has become a symbol of power.

The "Ding Hexagram" and the "Ge Hexagram" are overlapping each other, and the hexagram meaning is also opposite. "Ge Hexagram" symbolizes change, and "Ding Hexagram" symbolizes innovation. One is broken, and the other is standing.

"Zhou Yi Miscellaneous Hexagram": "Revolution", go to the past. "Ding", take the new also.

The food in the tripod is always to remove the old and incorporate the new, so the "tripod" has the meaning of "to take the old and take the new". This is the origin of the idiom [Dingxin Revolution].

"The Book of Poetry, Daya, King Wen": Although Zhou is an old state, his life is renewed. Although Zhou was an old state, King Wen of Zhou eventually replaced Yin Shang because he received a new mandate of heaven. However, the change of dynasties over the past few thousand years has not removed the "old one" of the supremacy of royal power, let alone established a "new" with the supremacy of civil rights.

Confucianism thought that "the supremacy of royal power" was a matter of course, and it never thought that royal power, which was not bound by law, was the root of all evil. After the new ruler deceived the people into believing in his lies, he gradually became reluctant to keep his promises. So the majority of the people at the bottom don't really benefit from the change in the end.

Let's start with the hexagrams. "Ding: Yuanji, Heng. Possessing this hexagram is very auspicious and prosperous. "Elephant Biography": There is fire on the wood, Ding. The gentleman is in the right position.

The lower hexagram of "Ding Hexagram" is Xun, Xun is wind and wood, and the upper hexagram is separation, and separation is fire. Therefore, the hexagram of "Ding" is like wood, and there is fire on it. The "positive" in the elephant word is upright. "Condensation" means condensation and strict order. "Life" is the mission. "A gentleman should be in a righteous position", which means: a gentleman should be placed in a correct position like a tripod, and always strictly abide by his mission.

"Biography": Ding, Xiang Ye, with Mu Xun Fire, Heng Yan also. The saint Heng enjoys God, and the tycoon feeds the saint. Xun and ears and eyes are smart, soft and upward, and in the middle and should be just, it is Yuan Heng. "Like also, with wood Xun fire, cooking also. "Heng" is a fake word for cooking.

"Ding Hexagram" is not only its hexagram image is like the utensil "Ding", but also the bottom of the "Ding Hexagram" is wood, and the top is fire, isn't this the image of cooking? "The sage is used to enjoy God, and the tycoon is used to support the sage." "The saints used the tripod to cook food for God to enjoy in the sacrifice, and the tripod to cook the food for the guests to nourish the virtuous. "Xun and ears and eyes are wise" refers to the "Xun" in the lower hexagram as the wind, which symbolizes humility and obedience, and the "leave" in the upper hexagram is fire, which symbolizes deafness and clear eyes.

"Soft and then upward, get the middle and respond to the rigidity, is to Yuan Heng", refers to the sixth day of the first six feminine line to the sixth five, in the middle of the honorable position, and the ninety-two masculine echo. So it's a lot of success.

1) The sixth day of the first month: Ding Wei toe, profit out of no. There is no blame for having a concubine and her son. "Elephant Biography": Ding Wei toe, not contradictory. Profit out of no, in order to be noble. "Ding toe", the sixth day symbolizes the tripod foot, so it is called the tripod toe. "Upside down", that is, upside down, subversion. "Profit out of no", that is, it is conducive to dumping the waste out of the tripod first. The metaphor explains "not contradictory", that is, it is not contrary to common sense to do so.

"Take a concubine and give it its son." In ancient times, the system of polyandry and concubineship was for the reproduction of human beings, and the desire to have sons was mainly to increase the labor force, and secondly, to be in harmony with the inheritance system of patrilineal society. The figurative word "to follow the noble also". In ancient times, "mothers are more precious than children", and the status of wives and concubines can be more expensive with the birth of children. "No blame", as long as you have a son, there will be no disaster.

2) Ninety-two: Ding is real, I have a disease, I can't be that is, Ji. "Elephant Biography": Ding is realistic, and he is cautious. I have a grudge, and I have no choice. Ninety-two symbolizes the belly. "Dingshi", that is, the food in the belly of Ding. The metaphor "be cautious" is a metaphor for being pregnant in the womb and need to be cautious. "I" refers to the ninety-two line.

The original word for "hatred" is "雠", which means that there is no one between spouses who do not quarrel. "Disease" is a disease. "I have a sickness" means that my spouse is sick. "I can't i.e.", is an inverted sentence of "can't be me", and the purpose is to rhyme. The original meaning of "i.e." is to eat face-to-face.

Here is a metaphor for the intersection of yin and yang. "I have a sickness, I can't be me", this sentence means that my spouse is sick and cannot bear children for me. But the relationship between the two is still good, so it is "auspicious". The metaphor "in the end" means that there is no fault in the end. Here reminds us of the daughter of Emperor Yi in "Gui Mei Hexagram" who married Queen Wen of Zhou, but was too old to have children, divorced his wife and then married the daughter of the Xin family, and finally gave birth to ten sons to him.

3) Ninety-three: Ding'er leather, its line is stopped, the pheasant paste is not eaten, Fang Yu is repentant, and it is auspicious. "Elephant Biography": Ding Er Ge, lose its meaning. "Dinger leather" means that the Dinglu is damaged. "Its line is stopped", Ding was blocked on the way from the back kitchen to the dining room. "Pheasant paste is not eaten", and the cooked pheasant meat is no longer eaten. "Fang Yu regrets, ends auspicious", "Fang" is a preposition.

"Rain" is the product of the encounter between yin and yang. "Loss" is a loss, a deficit. The meaning of this sentence is that when the yin and yang are harmonized, the remorse disappears, and the auspiciousness is finally obtained. Again, this is a hidden word. The "righteousness" in the elephant word is a suitable word. "Inappropriate" means misbehaving.

4) Ninety-four: Ding folds the foot, covers the public and eats, and its shape is fierce and fierce. "Elephant Biography": Covering the public, how to believe. Ninety-two symbolizes the full foot. "[sù]" refers to the food in the ding, and later refers to the delicacies. "Covering the duke", that is, because the foot of the prince is broken, the food in the duke's ding is overturned. "Wo" is wet and wet. "Its shape" means that the food in the tripod is sprinkled on the ground.

So it's "fierce". As the words "how to believe", how can this person still be trustworthy if he has done things badly?

5) Six-Five: Ding Huang Er, Jin Jie, Li Zhen. "Elephant Biography": Ding Huang Er, China Thought It is True. The symbol of the sixth and fifth is the Ding ear. "Yellow ear", that is, golden yellow tripod ear. This is the original color of the surface of the bronze before it is oxidized. "Xuan [xuàn]" is a pair of hooks that hook the tripod lugs on the bottom, and a ring on the top, which can be used to pass through the rod and lift the tripod up. The figurative word "in the truth" refers to the position of the sixth and fifth in the middle, indicating that there is truth in the ding.

6) On the nine: Ding Yu, Daji, no disadvantage. "Elephant Biography": The jade is on top, and the festival is also soft. The upper nine symbols are the Ding Jie. "Jade Xuan" is a tool for lifting the tripod inlaid with jade. With such a rich thing, it is naturally very auspicious and unfavorable. The symbolic word "rigidity and softness" means rigidity and softness.

"Ding" symbolizes the establishment of the system. But from the rhetoric, we can feel how difficult it is to "establish a new one". New life needs the harmony of yin and yang to be generated, one method does not work, you must change the method in time, and after pregnancy, you must be extra careful, and you must find the right trustworthy executor.
