Fort Collins for a short break, an 8-hour cornfield tour of Nebraska

This travelogue recalls my journey in Fort Collins and Nebraska from the seventh to the ninth day of my U.S. car. If you are interested in my journey ahead of you, you can go and look at the previous content:

Farmland and irrigation machinery in Nebraska

The first week of the trip clocked in many important cities in the Midwest of the United States, a total of more than 2700 kilometers, and there was still a long journey waiting for me, so the seventh day in Fort Collins gave myself a weekend, a short rest day. My inn in Fort Collins is located on the eastern edge of the city, of course, because the city itself is not large, so it is not even a 10-minute drive from the city. It's very quiet, and further east is a wasteland with interstate 25 in the distance.

The inn where I stayed in Fort Collins was surrounded by low-rise detached houses and townhouses

I praised the construction of the city in the previous article, in fact, mainly because I got up this morning to run and found that the trails and lawns next to the highway were repaired well, a full five kilometers, the sidewalks were very good to run, and I met the residents who walked in the morning, greeted me with a friendly greeting, and cheered me up. (General residential areas or parks everyone prefers to say hello, in the urban area will not be) there are not many cars on the road, with exquisite small single-family houses, there is indeed an impulse to stay idle for a while, experience the kind of mentality that from now on, if you are idle and take the moon, the cane knocks on the door at night. After running away from the Target supermarket opposite the hotel to buy some good food, go to the place where you live, rinse and nestle on the sofa to watch the NBA playoffs in the weekend prime time, it is very weekend feeling.

The whole community house is not very much, peaceful and cozy

The size of the city is not very large, and the other side of the road is a wasteland

The afternoon was also mainly rested at the hotel and took some time to sort out the photos and videos of the first week. In the evening, I went for a walk to colorado state university, Fort Collins, the best and most recognized branch in the University of Science system. Schools in small cities are generally relatively large, the school mainly uses modern style buildings, many buildings are still very designed, the vegetation is also carefully maintained, may also be the weekend, the campus gives people a very quiet and clean feeling.

Quiet and tidy campus

The buildings throughout the school are in modern style

In early spring, many trees have flowered, but unfortunately, Tiangong is not beautiful and has not been able to take good photos. In front of the chemical building, there are also several small decorations composed of compound molecules, which is very interesting. In the evening, I ate and talked with my classmates about their future plans, encouraged each other, and finally said a word of appreciation, ran to their respective futures, and this time they did not know what year to see each other.

The drizzle fell intermittently for a day, and it was finally clear when the sun was about to set

All in all, these four days in North Colorado are still very comfortable, and the city is moderately dense, neither crowded nor desolate. (Of course, that will be compared with other cities in the United States, after returning home to see the photo again, it is still a little too quiet) Probably the only concern of living here is the heavy snow in winter, if you like ice and snow sports friends, life here is really perfect; Rocky Mountain National Park is also famous, of course, it is best to go once in the middle of summer, but there are regrets to have future hope and hope.

Early in the morning of the eighth day, I set off from Fort Collins and headed north along Interstate 25 and back to Interstate 80 to continue east to the next stop on my road trip, Nebraska. The state is located in the most central geographical center of the United States, but unfortunately, the development of air and shipping has made these cities in all directions lose their advantages, but have become the most unpopular states in the United States, except at school, it is difficult to see the faces of Chinese or even Asians here. Nebraska's most famous city is the capital lincoln and the largest city of Omaha, but there is nothing particularly worth visiting in the city, and I actually mainly stop here with the mentality of passing by and punching cards.

Road map for the eighth day

At that time, when designing the itinerary, it felt like the 8-hour drive directly from Fort Collins to Omaha was a bit far, so I chose to drive one and a half hours less, spend the night in lincoln, the state capital, and take a spin in Lincoln the next day to go to Omaha. The impression is that Nebraska is very desolate, but it is not accurate, because unlike the Gobi and Dakota grasslands in New Mexico, there are only few people here, but most of the land is fully utilized, growing wheat and corn, a staple crop, when you come here, at a speed of 120km/h on the highway for 8 hours continuously, you can deeply understand why the United States has so much grain to export, why the Sino-US trade war is aimed at U.S. agricultural products. Although the land area of the United States is slightly smaller than that of China, but the land suitable for farming is far more than That of China, coupled with the high degree of mechanization of Agriculture in the United States, (of course, in recent years, the rural areas in China's developed areas have been catching up with the United States) There are various types of automatic irrigation on farmland stretching for hundreds of kilometers, and these favorable conditions have laid the foundation for the status of the United States as a major agricultural exporter.

However, from a tourist point of view, the scenery is a bit monotonous, but if you want to return to nature for a while and empty yourself, this is a good choice. When driving, I took a few pictures, and the quality of the photos was not high, but you could still see the irrigation facilities in the field, and the sunset was a pure natural beauty, which was particularly spectacular because of the wide view. If I don't rush, I will definitely find an exit to drive in the opposite direction.

Sunset on the highway

I arrived in Lincoln at 8 p.m., the size of the city was similar to Fort Collins, the local price was also very cheap, an Asian style buffet, (that is, the kind of Chinese Thai Japanese food mixed together, may not know much about Asia in the eyes of traditional Asian Americans are similar to it) only $10, about 25 yuan in Silicon Valley, for my kind of meal is a bit large, full than eating is more important than eating good boys are very ideal. The central city has a healthy and healthy schedule, and this restaurant is located in one of the city's main shopping centers, and even so, by the time I came out of the restaurant at nine o'clock, the whole shopping mall was pitch black.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Slept in the motel for one night, the next day took some time to walk around lincoln city, the city is very small, the north is the University of Nebraska Lincoln, is a good school, pay attention to the NCAA friends may also know, school sports are still quite strong. The weather on this day was very good, and it was located in the plain, which was faster than the season in Denfoshan, and it was fully into the spring, and the campus was very beautiful. On Tuesday, there were still a lot of people in the school, and there were girls in the square painting slogans for club activities on the ground, and the school was much more lively and energetic than other places in the city. The style of the campus is not much different from other American schools, retaining some of the ancient buildings that were originally built in the school, and there are also some modern buildings, so there is nothing to do to turn around, and there is no time to skip.

The old bell tower of the school

The southern part of the city has its state legislature, unlike most state legislatures, its building is a tower, there are some statues in the square in front of the door, and there are some patterns on the ground, which can give a brief understanding of the history of the state and the local proud corn industry. Lincoln is not a big city, there are not many people, so parking is very convenient, there are one or two hours of free street parking near the school square, the traffic is very convenient.
