This is the "028th time travel" of the "Screen Traveler Viewing Group"!
On April 26, coinciding with World Intellectual Property Day, the Traveler Viewing Group will bring a special event to everyone, jointly with the American Film Association to hold the "World Intellectual Property Day, American Film Association "Golden Video Store" Theme Viewing Event.
"King's Video Store" is directed by David Redmond and Ashley Sabine and is currently being screened online by the National Art Film Screening Alliance. The film was nominated for the Future Innovation Award at the 39th Sundance Film Festival and screened at the 13th Beijing International Film Festival to great acclaim.
In "Kim's Video Store", the audience follows the director, the "David" in the movie, and explores the untold story behind a video rental shop in New York.
As the investigation progressed, David discovered that the extremely precious tapes he was looking for were piled up in abandoned warehouses in Sicily. Movies are used as bargaining chips to get involved in intrigues and even struggles. In order to save these films, David rushed to Sicily, and finally found inspiration from the movies he had seen, and gathered Chaplin, Hitchcock, Godard, Jackie Chan, Ingmar Bergman, Agnès Varda, Jim Jarmusch and other "movie souls" to launch a "movie rescue plan".
The film perfectly integrates the documentary form with the story, and the injection of the "soul of the film" makes the story covered with a layer of heroism. As Mr. Kim says in the film, "If Godard has helped you, I have no reason to oppose it, and whatever he does, I believe it will be right".
"Cinema is a record of existence", a microcosm of every dynamic and innovative era. In "Kim's Video Store", the film world and the real world are intertwined, and the director injects nearly 60 classic movie easter eggs, so that the audience can experience the creator's love for movies with a very real feeling. Protecting film art by "stealing" films, paying tribute to the spirit of cinema by "shooting" films, the main creator uses a surrealist approach to show the culture he loves to the audience, and also shows the spiritual core of the fan group to the world.
