01. 4 design steps
The essence of design is to solve problems, and almost all design actions can be broken down into 4 steps:

1. What is your design strategy and at what level do you solve the problem?
Generally, low-level designers only have good or bad problems in their eyes, which means that they can only solve problems at the level of good and bad looking, and rarely think about the deeper level of design strategy.
2. Problem solving means that you come up with a hypothesis to solve the problem, which can be called a concept or a solution.
Even if it is to solve the visual problem of whether it is good or not, we have to assume a solution, such as using a combination of shape and material to solve the problem of good looks.
3. The implementation plan is to accurately describe your hypothesis and make it understandable to others, so as not to be deformed when others implement it.
This requires that your ideas be very precise and implemented in the drawings without ambiguity, so that the production or construction unit will understand how to do it and to what extent.
4. Verification feedback means that after implementation, if the final result is different from your initial assumption, this requires you to revisit and optimize your design to avoid recurrence.
For example, as long as you have chosen a wallpaper, you have probably experienced a situation where it looks good on the surface, but it is not ideal after implementation, and the feedback review is to record the difference between these ideas and reality, and find the reason.

02. Designers must master "illustration"
Design thinking is a kind of abstract thinking, and every kind of work that relies on abstract thinking needs to have its own language in order to solidify the results of the work.

For interior design, a plan gradually takes shape in the designer's mind, and then the designer has to accurately describe the plan imagined in his brain on the drawing, and the language of this description is diagram.
Since drawings are a kind of language structure, the most difficult thing to grasp in interior design drawings is not those sections and nodes, but system diagrams.
When the designer has enough logical ability and the language expression ability of the drawing, he can skillfully control the language structure of the drawing.
As mentioned above, in order to master the skills of the "execution output" stage, designers must go to the construction site to learn the process, materials, and processes to build their drawing language skills.
Therefore, if you don't learn poetry, you can't speak, and if you don't learn to illustrate, you can't do design.
After mastering the ability to illustrate, you will also need to learn the ability to "verify feedback" on the construction site.
Often there is a gap between the imagination we generate on the drawings and the real world, and the immaturity of a designer is often reflected in whether problems can be found on the construction site:
1. It is found that the performance of the construction site and the drawings are inconsistent, for example, the workers do not work according to the drawings, or the construction does not reach the accuracy of the drawings.
2. Designers should also find their own design assumptions in time to be inconsistent with reality, for example, the original idea of their own selection of materials is particularly good, but after the realization is not what they imagined.
3. After having a lot of practical experience, designers will have what I call "on-site wisdom", at this time, designers can always capture the fleeting inspiration on the spot, the kind of wit that turns stones into gold.
For example, a small change that is not planned on the spot can turn decay into magic.
For example, a dead knot in construction that is at a loss can be cleverly resolved by a small adjustment.
03. What do you learn when you go to the construction site?
Now that we know what we need to learn, let's take a look at how to learn.
1. You want to build your own graphic skills, but you don't have the opportunity to go to the construction site to keep an eye on the project from beginning to end.
Then I suggest you first go to a well-designed space that you can visit, such as a small hotel, restaurant, or show room, and then take a photograph of it.
After that, you go to major design websites or Taobao to collect the most complete information about the project (including construction drawings). Then start to get familiar with it, then you have to print out all the construction drawings, start to copy one stroke at a time, while painting while recalling your memory on the site, vague and incomprehensible places, you can turn the photos again, then you will definitely find that there are many details that you did not take in the photos, and you yourself can not understand the meaning of the drawings, it doesn't matter, record this place, continue to paint.
When you copy all the construction drawings, print them out, return to the project site again, compare them one by one with the things you don't understand when copying, and then take photos again.
Go back to the computer and review it, find out what you didn't understand before, and redraw it. When you do this a few times, you may learn a lot even if you go to any construction site.
2. When you have the opportunity, you can keep an eye on the project from start to finish on the construction site.
I suggest that you first communicate with the project designer to understand the project's information, background, and design purpose.
Then you have to copy the drawings in their entirety.
After going to the construction site, the construction begins, see what things are the same as you imagined in the construction, and then record them, find someone on the site and ask why?
Finally, after the project is completed, examine what is consistent with the diagram, what is different, and what is the cause?
