Fruit growers are busy shuttling among the fruit trees, catching up with the agricultural time, busy with flower thinning work, and the whole orchard presents a lively and busy scene.
Growers are skilful at gently plucking excess flowers, ensuring that only 1-2 flowers are left in each cluster to ensure the quality and yield of the fruits. Li Qiang, the person in charge of the organic apple demonstration base, introduced to us that flower thinning is an indispensable part of fruit tree management, which can effectively reduce the nutrient consumption of the tree body and make the flowers left behind get a more adequate nutrient supply, thereby improving the quality and yield of fruits. He said that while a cluster usually has five to 12 flowers, too many flowers can lead to smaller fruits and lower quality. Therefore, they carefully select and keep only the most robust flowers.
