First aid measures

1. Braking

Do not panic after being bitten by a venomous snake, avoid accelerating the absorption and spread of the toxin, and lower the wound so that the wound is lower than the heart.

2. Lashing

If the limb is bitten, it should be immediately tied in a ring at the proximal end of the limb with a belt, shoelace, handkerchief, cloth strip, towel or rope, etc., and the elastic should be tight enough to block the lymphatic and venous return.

Relax for 1~2 minutes every 20 minutes until the wound is treated and snake medicine or antivenom is used.

3. Rinse the wound

Immediately rinse the wound with saline, soapy water, 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution, 3% hydrogen peroxide, etc. If not, rinse with plenty of water.

4. Incision wound detoxification

With the tooth mark as the center, use a sharp instrument to cut the wound into a "ten" figure, not deeper than the subcutaneous tissue, and it is advisable to achieve lymphatic outflow. If the hand or foot is bitten, a thick needle is used to prick the fingers and toes to detoxify.

5. Suck on venom

Use cupping, breast pumping, etc. to absorb the venom at the bite site.

6. Cold compress

If possible, ice cubes can be applied around the wound and proximal to constrict the blood vessels and lymphatic vessels and delay the absorption of snake venom.

Precautions are important!

1. It is forbidden to suck the venom from the bite wound with your mouth, and you can use a breast pump or cupping to suck out the venom repeatedly;

2. When it is difficult to distinguish between venomous snake bites and non-venomous snake bites, they are treated according to venomous snake bites;

3. When seeking medical treatment, try to bring snake specimens or take photos, and provide relevant information about poisonous snakes as much as possible, such as color, pattern, shape, etc.;

4. Once bitten by a snake, sit down first, minimize exercise, and avoid accelerated blood circulation. If the patient needs to be moved, the injured person should be carried to reduce the number of people moving around on their own.
