Requesting the deployment of nuclear weapons, Poland assured the United States that it was fully prepared and had three points to consider

On April 22, 2024, Polish President Duda publicly stated in an interview with the media that under the framework of nuclear sharing, Poland and the United States have held a series of consultations on the deployment of nuclear weapons, and as far as the current progress is concerned, once the time is ripe, the United States will successfully deploy nuclear weapons in Poland to protect NATO's eastern flank. In fact, the outside world is not surprised by the news revealed by Polish President Duda, and the reason is very simple: after all, it is already an open secret that the United States wants to deploy nuclear weapons in Poland, and it is only a matter of time before this goal is finally achieved.

In fact, under the framework agreement on nuclear sharing, if the United States does deploy nuclear weapons in Poland, it will also have an impact on European geopolitics, and Poland is so obsessed with getting the United States to put nuclear weapons on its own territory for deeper reasons. After all, once the United States places nuclear weapons in Poland, it will inevitably attract the targeting of Russian nuclear weapons, and Poland's move is undoubtedly to invite disaster for itself, and the reason why Poland does this is actually based on many considerations.

Requesting the deployment of nuclear weapons, Poland assured the United States that it was fully prepared and had three points to consider

First, it is in line with the strategic purpose of Poland's accession to NATO. Since the "great changes in Eastern Europe" in 1989, Poland joined the NATO camp, and what Poland has always dreamed of is the collective security provided by the US-led NATO. For Poland, the deployment of nuclear weapons by the United States on its own territory is not only a threat to Poland, nor is it only a disaster for Poland, but it brings Poland a real sense of security. Poland therefore welcomes the deployment of US nuclear weapons on Polish territory under the nuclear sharing agreement, after all, Poland was so eager to join the Western family and ask for NATO membership in order to obtain security guarantees. Under the nuclear sharing framework agreement, the United States deployed nuclear weapons in Poland, which is not only the result of mutual agreement, but also the ultimate goal that Poland wants to achieve when joining NATO.

Second, from the perspective of Poland's national strategy, Poland's request for the United States to place nuclear weapons on its territory is actually based on its relations with Russia. After all, Poland was a very key country in the socialist camp of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, and it was also the leader of Eastern European countries, but after the "great changes in Eastern Europe" and the collapse of the Soviet Union, Poland decisively abandoned Russia and quickly joined the Western family, and since then it has parted ways with Russia, and Poland's relations with Russia have also become sour. At the fundamental level, turning the other cheek with Russia, the largest country in Europe, is a disservice to Poland's national interests and a threat to Poland's security.

Poland's quest for a sense of security and its own security in the fight against Russia will undoubtedly require the protection of nuclear weapons from the United States, which is the best strategy for Poland to deal with Russia, a nuclear power. According to Poland, although Poland cannot produce nuclear weapons, Poland can have nuclear weapons, and once Poland has nuclear weapons, Russia's trick of nuclear deterrence against Poland at every turn can be completely bankrupt, because Poland can also target Moscow and St. Petersburg with nuclear weapons. Therefore, based on Poland's relations with Russia, Poland must also have life-saving weapons, which in the current situation are the nuclear weapons that Poland dreams of.

Third, the reason why Poland wants the United States to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory under the framework agreement on nuclear sharing is also to establish good relations with the United States. It is clear to everyone that Poland is deploying nuclear weapons on its own territory in order to target the Russian-Belarusian alliance between Belarus and Russia. Since Poland clearly knows that once nuclear weapons are deployed on Polish territory, the time for Russia's defense to launch nuclear weapons from Polish territory will be greatly reduced, and Poland still has its own considerations for doing so. After all, the Poles are also very smart, and since Poland has made up its mind to part ways with Russia, it must have good relations with the United States, and if it wants to have good relations with the United States, it must not just show love from a distance, but must be closely integrated, and Poland and the United States must be deeply bound. Under the framework of nuclear sharing, although nuclear weapons are deployed in Poland, the ownership, use, and launch rights are still in the hands of the United States, and once the United States agrees to this request and deploys nuclear weapons, it means that Poland and the United States will henceforth be partners who breathe the same breath and share a common destiny.

Fourth, Poland's move this time is also a reciprocal countermeasure to Russia's deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus under the nuclear-sharing framework agreement. Last year, Belarus and Russia reached an agreement to deploy nuclear warheads in Belarus under the framework of nuclear sharing, and Russia's move to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus made Belarus's neighbor Poland feel a formidable threat in light of NATO's eastward expansion and the strengthening of its military presence in western Russia. Therefore, under this stress reaction, Poland had no choice but to ask the United States for help, hoping that the United States would deploy nuclear weapons on its own territory.

All in all, there are many reasons why Poland is aware that the deployment of nuclear weapons will exacerbate geopolitical tensions in Europe, but in the current situation, even if the United States deploys nuclear weapons on Polish territory, it is unlikely to bring security to Poland. After all, Russia, Europe, and the United States already have nuclear capabilities that are mutually assured of destruction, and in this case, Poland's move is just emboldening itself. After all, the United States does not dare to use the nuclear weapons deployed in Poland, because Russia is also a nuclear superpower, and unless everyone wants to play together, the role of nuclear weapons is more just scolding in the air.
