This exhibition takes the Three Gorges Cultural Relics Protection Project as the background, takes the achievements of the protection and restoration of cultural relics unearthed in the Three Gorges as the display object, and through the three major contents of "Three Gorges Cultural Relics Archaeology", "Skilled Craftsmen Repair Cultural Relics" and "Effective Use and Activation", combined with new discoveries, new achievements and new technologies in the field of cultural relics protection, the audience is introduced to the scientific means of cultural relics restoration and preventive protection, and explains the important value of the Three Gorges culture and the concept of protection and utilization.

The exhibition is supported by the cultural and tourism committees of 10 relevant districts and counties in Wanzhou, Fuling, Changshou, Kaizhou, Wulong, Fengdu, Zhongxian, Yunyang, Fengjie and Wushan.

The exhibition area is about 1,200 square meters, the exhibition line is about 360 meters, and 895 pieces/sets of cultural relics (198 pieces/sets of precious cultural relics, including 15 pieces/sets of first-class cultural relics) unearthed from various districts and counties in the Three Gorges area are displayed, which is the largest number of cultural relics and precious cultural relics in Chongqing in recent years.

Among the exhibits, there are many heavyweight cultural relics such as the Warring States jade sword, the bronze seal of the Han "Barbarian Yi Chang", the bronze lantern of the Han Dynasty, the Eastern Han Dynasty pottery cash tree, and the copper water tray in the first year of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and for the first time, the lacquer plate unearthed from the No. 1 tomb of Wulong Pass, which was selected as the final evaluation of the top ten archaeological discoveries in the country in 2024, was exhibited to the audience for the first time.

The exhibition displays more than 80 pictures of archaeological excavation and cultural relics protection, 19 physical objects or models, 7 physical interactive experience system points, 45 sets of videos (including feature films, animations, etc.), and 4 digital monitoring platforms/system points.

There are two restoration rooms for metalware and ceramics in the exhibition hall, which can not only display the restoration work of cultural relics in real time, but also allow the audience to experience becoming "cultural relics restorers".

In addition, the exhibition also exhibited nearly 1,000 publications and nearly 100 cultural and creative products, and the audience could take home the achievements of the protection and utilization of the Three Gorges cultural relics while viewing the exhibition.

According to the relevant person in charge of the organizer, as a landmark section of the Yangtze River, the Three Gorges is an important source of human civilization in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and in the world's largest cultural relics protection project - the Three Gorges Cultural Relics Protection Project, 183,000 pieces of cultural relics have been unearthed in the Three Gorges Reservoir area in Chongqing, which is a vivid witness of the mainland's "millions of years of human history, 10,000 years of cultural history, and more than 5,000 years of civilization history". Chongqing Municipality will further strengthen the systematic protection and management of the cultural relics of the Three Gorges, build a pedigree of the core values of the cultural relics of the Three Gorges, improve the display and dissemination system of the cultural relics of the Three Gorges, and use rich and diversified means to tell the "Three Gorges Story", "Yangtze River Story" and "China Story" well.

In addition, the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing will start a comprehensive renovation work at the end of 2023, and as one of the important achievements of the first phase of comprehensive renovation, the magnificent Three Gorges Exhibition Hall will also be officially opened on May 1.
