The Pura70 series only has RYYB in the Ultra version?

1. Analysis of the official information of the main camera

The Pura70 series only has RYYB in the Ultra version?

From Huawei's official information in the picture above, it can be seen that the Pura70 and the two Pro versions with a large aperture of F/1.4 have increased the amount of light by 56% compared to the iPhone15 Pro Max with an aperture of F/1.78.

The pixel size of Huawei's main camera sensor is 1.2 microns, while Apple's main camera sensor has a pixel size of 1.22 microns, so we have the following calculations:

(1.2² / 1.4²)÷(1.22² / 1.78²)-1 ≈ 0.56

This is purely calculated from the sensor pixel size and aperture value, multiplied by 100% is the calculation shown in the official graph, which means that the official information does not take into account the RYYB light gain.

However, this is not the case in the official information of the Ultra version, and the following is explained by the calculation of the amount of light entering the light.

The Ultra version has a maximum aperture of F/1.6 for the main camera, corresponding to a 1.6-inch sensor pixel size of 1.6 microns, combined with the 1.4x sensitivity gain of the RYYB and the main camera information of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the following calculations are obtained:

(1.6² / 1.6²)÷(1.22² / 1.78²)× 1.4 -1 ≈ 1.98

Multiplying this calculation by 100%, it is the same as the official information shown in the figure below, with a 198% increase in light intake!

So the situation is clear, the main camera of the four models of the Pura70 series is only the Ultra version with a RYYB filter array with a custom sensor, plus its industry's largest one-inch main camera aperture, and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is also 45% ahead in terms of light intake!

In addition, judging from the actual sample comparison, the white balance style of the Ultra version is also different from the other three, and the white balance of the other three main cameras is similar to that of the Mate60 series without the RYYB array.

The summary is,Ultra version uses RYYB arrayAlthough there will be color problems such as yellowing in some scenes,But this is a product that "shows muscles" in terms of light intake, and combined with the wind speed flash shooting function this time, it also provides application scenarios in extreme capture.

2. Periscope official information analysis

The Pura70 series only has RYYB in the Ultra version?

First of all, it is known that Huawei's periscope aperture value is F/2.1, and the sensor is OmniVision OV64B, so the pixel size is 0.7 microns, and the periscope aperture value of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is F/2.8, and the sensor is Sony IMX913, so the pixel size is 1.12 microns.

Since Huawei Periscope defaults to a pixel four-in-one output, its pixel size is 1.4 microns when calculating the amount of light, while Apple's side is a native Bayer arrangement, so it is the original pixel output, so there is the following calculation:

(1.4² / 2.1²)÷(1.12² / 2.8²)-1 ≈ 1.78

After multiplying the calculation result by 100%, it is perfectly matched with the official diagram information, but the official excludes the Ultra version through small print annotation, which means that the sensor does not have a customized RYYB array, only the Pro version and the Pro+ version.

So does the Ultra version of the periscope sensor have a custom RYYB array? Judging from the samples, its white balance style is quite consistent with the main camera, but because there is no official picture information to prove it, so it is conservative to say that there is.

The end result is that the standard version and the two Pro versions of the rear camera sensor, none of them have a custom RYYB filter array!

Compared with last year's P60 series, which customized all RYYB arrays, the changes are really too big! Combined with the positioning of the standard version and the Pro version as the main models in volume, Huawei may still want to attract more new users who originally used other brands of mobile phones.

So you can see that in the promotional picture of Huawei Pura70 Pro+ below, it has begun to be labeled with "primary colors".
