Unlike performance-driven models, the 2025 Indian Scout has always been designed with the classic cruiser in mind, combining an American-style V-twin engine with retro exterior lines, as well as handling and technology. The new model continues the Indian brand's heritage while also bringing an even better riding experience to the riders.

Since its launch in 2014, the Scout has quickly become one of the most successful models of Indian motorcycles, and the best-selling cruiser in its class in some parts of the world. It can be said that the Scout series is an important cornerstone of the future journey of Indian motorcycles. Cyclists who are new to Indian motorcycles tend to start with the Scout series and then explore other models of the brand.

The 2025 Indian Scout Series features five distinct models to suit the individual preferences of riders. The five models are: the simple and elegant Scout Classic, the low-lying and tough Scout Bobber, the Super Scout with cruising comfort, the Sport Scout with an emphasis on sporty performance, and the 101 Scout, India's most aggressive middleweight cruiser to date.

Strong power, fully upgraded

The new Scout is powered by Indy Safety's newly developed SpeedPlus 1250 V-twin engine, which has been upgraded to 1250cc for even more powerful performance. Depending on the model configuration, the engine output can reach 105 hp or 111 hp. Indian says all Scout Series models can upgrade the ECU program at authorized dealerships to the 101 Scout's 111 horsepower level.

Compared to the previous generation, the new engine has increased maximum power by 5 to 11 hp and peak torque by 13.56 Nm. To achieve strong power delivery while improving fuel economy, Indian engineers have made complete optimizations to the engine's interior, including new pistons, larger valves, lighter crankshafts, and more. Thanks to the lightweight crankshaft, the weight of the vehicle engine was reduced by almost 4.5 kg. In addition, the new engine incorporates a slip-assist clutch and is optimized for gear noise that was present in past Scout series models.

The handling has been upgraded and the appearance has been refreshed

The new Scout series features a newly designed steel tube frame that replaces the previously used cast aluminum frame at the front, bringing lightweight benefits and providing more possibilities for body customization. The air cleaner has been redesigned, the radiator size has been reduced by 20%, and it integrates seamlessly with the frame.

To create a more textured visual effect, the Indian engineers cleverly concealed the electronics and necessary hardware inside the frame. All Scout models feature a non-adjustable fork (11.94 cm of travel) and dual rear shocks (7.62 cm of travel), while the 101 Scout comes with a fully adjustable inverted fork (14.99 cm of travel) and adjustable rear shock, with the exception of the Bobber model, which has a shorter travel non-adjustable rear shock (2.0 inches). In terms of braking system, the 101 Scout features higher-spec Brembo calipers and dual 320mm discs, while other Scout models use a single 298mm disc.

The newly designed exhaust system leaves more space for the installation of side packs, which improves the practicality of the vehicle. At the same time, to cater to different riding styles, the new Scout series is available in two rim sizes: 16-inch and 19-inch.

Price & Positioning

Thanks to a fully upgraded configuration, the 101 Scout sells for $16,999, which is essentially the same as Harley-Davidson's Sportster S and slightly higher than the Super Scout with a trunk ($16,499–$16,999). The rest of the Scout models are priced in the $12,999 to $16,699 range.

Despite the upgraded exterior, the new Scout collection retains its classic design. The slight increase in fuel tank volume was mainly due to the need to accommodate a newly designed air cleaner.

Configuration differences

The new Scout series is available in a variety of configurations, resulting in a wide range of price points. With the exception of the 101 Scout and Super Scout, all Scout models are available in standard, limited and limited high-spec configurations.

  • Standard version: electronic gauges, LED headlights, ABS anti-lock braking system.
  • Limited Edition: Adds Ride Mode Selection, Traction Control, Cruise Control, and USB Connectivity.
  • Limited Edition: A 4-inch touchscreen display, keyless start system, and Ride Command infotainment system with turn-by-turn navigation and more.

The paint color is different for almost all models and will vary depending on the configuration. For example, the Classic models have more chrome accents, while the Bobber, Sport, and 101 models are more minimalist. Such a wide range of configuration options may be difficult for consumers to choose, but this is also the sincerity of Indian motorcycles to cater to diverse needs, and different configurations will bring a completely different riding experience.

Overall impression

Despite the new TFT gauges and other technical features, the overall design of the new Scout series continues the classic cruising car philosophy. The new design also brought some minor issues, such as the presence of an unpainted surface under the fuel cap of some of the test vehicles.

The new exhaust system is not noticeable at start-up, the engine runs smoothly and emits a low roar at idle. Compared to the Revolution Max 1250T engine of the Harley-Davidson Sportster S, the SpeedPlus 1250 engine from the Indian Scout is more attractive in terms of exterior design.

All in all, the new Scout series engines are able to meet the basic needs of a cruising vehicle platform, with a strong power delivery and well-controlled vibrations, making them ideal for riding on city roads and winding coastal roads. The engine is the soul of the American cruiser, and the new Scout series is impeccable in this regard.

Scout Classic

2025 Indian Scout Motorcycle Series First Review|Classic Cruising Style

Classics are timeless, but they are not the only ones. The Scout Classic of the Indian Scout series was last in the test car line, but that was mainly because it lacked the highlights of the other models, rather than because it had obvious flaws in terms of performance or design.

If you're a fan of classic sleek fenders and lots of chrome accents, then the Scout Classic is definitely the one for you. However, compared to other Scout models, the Classic's fender design isn't too innovative, and other features are a little lacking and a bit out of place. It has neither a windshield for highway cruising nor a suspension system that lowers the height of the vehicle to create a cool look. All in all, the Scout Classic is a solid piece of moderation, but perhaps overshadowed by the brilliance of other, more distinctive models.

Scout Bobber

2025 Indian Scout Motorcycle Series First Review|Classic Cruising Style

2025 Indian Scout Motorcycle Series First Review|Classic Cruising Style

The Scout Bobber is the most affordable model in the range and the most popular Scout model at the moment. The ultra-low suspension (2 inches of rear wheel travel) and the straight under-mounted handlebar create a stiff visual effect that's perfect for personalization.

The short rear shock travel and low handlebar position make for less comfort, especially when driving on bumpy roads, where extra attention is needed to deal with the back. The standard suspension system is not good at handling bumpy terrain, and the shortening of the rear suspension travel further exacerbates the problem.

The Scout Bobber is a car that focuses more on exterior design and personalization, but it makes compromises in terms of comfort and handling. If you're more interested in looks and looks, and you mostly ride on well-paved roads, then the Scout Bobber is a great choice. However, if you often drive on bumpy roads or have high requirements for comfort, then another Scout model may be a better fit for you.

Scout Sport

2025 Indian Scout Motorcycle Series First Review|Classic Cruising Style

Despite its name, Scout Sport isn't as sporty as its name. However, it offers a great space for modding, making it ideal for modding enthusiasts. Similar to the Scout Bobber, the Sport has a huge potential for modification, as if it were a piece of gem to be carved.

Like other non-adjustable Scout suspensions, the Sport's suspension doesn't handle bumpy road conditions well, which can cause bumps and discomfort during intense riding. The standard single disc brake meets the basic braking needs, but the braking feel and braking power are slightly lacking compared to the dual disc brake system.

With the optional Native American 10-inch handlebar lift kit (6-inch handlebar height) paired with motorcycle-style handlebars standard on the Sport and 101 models, it's easy to elevate your stance for a more aggressive look. It's this expansive customization space that makes Sport stand out from the crowd in the Scout range. In addition, the Sport's rear suspension travel has been increased by one inch compared to the Bobber, further enhancing comfort.

The Sport isn't a sport cruiser looking for ultimate handling, but it balances handling and customization to a certain extent, making it ideal for riders who want to look different.

Super Scout

Despite its slightly higher price, the Super Scout's rich feature set makes it one of the most practical models in the range. A windscreen, comfortable seat cushions and plenty of luggage space make it easy to handle long journeys.

The quick-release windshield mounted on the shock absorber leg can be removed and reassembled in seconds, giving you the flexibility to suit your riding needs. The side bag is not waterproof or lockable, but it has a decent capacity and has an easy-to-open zippered closure system. With the windshield and side bags removed, the Super Scout can essentially be reverted to a Scout Classic.

It should be said that all Scout models have a relatively small seat cushion size, especially for long journeys, and the front cushion is slightly less supportive. Still, for tall riders, the Super Scout's ergonomics are relatively comfortable. All Scout models come standard with front-mounted footpegs, but they are positioned so that the rider doesn't feel cramped legroom. Indian also offers a mid-mounted footrest as an option.

101 Scout

2025 Indian Scout Motorcycle Series First Review|Classic Cruising Style

2025 Indian Scout Motorcycle Series First Review|Classic Cruising Style

The highest-priced 101 Scout became our favourite car, and the more responsive braking system proved to be more confident in handling. Fully adjustable shock absorbers handle bumpy terrain conditions with ease for a more comfortable ride. The retuned 111-horsepower engine delivers a powerful and responsive engine that delivers sharper handling and a performance leap that far exceeds the 6-horsepower boost.

It's true that the $17,000 price tag is $4,000 more than the entry-level Bobber model ($13,000), but the 101 Scout isn't just an entry-level motorcycle for beginners, it's going to be more fun as you get better on your riding skills. Powerful performance, a strong personality and versatile style make it a long-term car to own. It can meet your needs for speed, but also easily handle casual riding with friends. In addition, if you choose all the options for the other Scout models, the price will be close to that of the 101 Scout.

Unfortunately, the 101 Scout is only available in a spray coat and is not available in a solid color, which may be a disincentive for some consumers.
