Unmanned farms reshape the pattern of agricultural production - the third in the series of reports on "AI is coming".

In the vast fields on the outskirts of Shanghai, the agricultural base stations that stand tall, the unmanned agricultural machinery shuttling through the fields, and the drones hovering in the air together outline a vivid picture of the future of agriculture. This is a demonstration base of 10,000 acres of unmanned farms built by the Agricultural Development Group of Bright Food Group in the Yangtze River Agricultural Company. As the largest, highest production level and most complete industrial chain food production unit in Shanghai, the Agricultural Development Group is actively solving the problem of "who will farm the land" with agricultural digitalization, intelligence and unmanned.

Efficient field patrol by drone

AI in-depth analysis and intelligent decision-making

In April in Shanghai, spring returns to the earth, and it is another year of spring plowing and preparation season. In the "unmanned farm" of the Yangtze River Agricultural Company, you can't see the busy figures of the farmers, only the faint sound of machinery. Here, from ploughing, sowing, fertilizing, irrigating to harvesting, it can be achieved by operating mobile phones and computer systems.

Zhang Qiang, deputy general manager of the Yangtze River Agricultural Company, told reporters that digital perception is the first step in the construction of "unmanned farms". Traditional agricultural cultivation is closely related to the experience of farmers, what is the weather, where are pests, where do we need to water and fertilize? A series of problems require farmers to go to the field to observe and make judgments based on experience. In the "unmanned farm", intelligent monitoring equipment replaces the human eye and monitors various manifestations of agricultural production in an all-weather and all-round way.

Efficient field patrol by drone

Zhang Qiang said that the UAV adopts the "air, space, ground" integrated field monitoring system, which can monitor meteorology, soil, water environment, diseases, insects and weeds, and crop growth in real time. "In the past, it took several people to look at the fields one by one, but now with drones, it only takes 3 minutes to complete the task of manually patrolling the fields for 1 hour. ”

Supported by massive data, the smart agriculture cloud platform has become the "smart brain" of "unmanned farms". Zhang Qiang talked about the changes brought about by AI technology with fertilization as an example, "The large amount of data collected by drones, through the in-depth analysis of AI algorithms, can accurately identify the differences in soil fertility between fields, accurately judge the nutritional needs of crops at each growth stage, and then form a field management prescription map." Such intelligent decision-making can help agricultural production to maximize the realization of "seeking benefits and avoiding disadvantages".

The whole process is intelligent

"Manual work" becomes "technical work"

In the spring ploughing production of "unmanned farms", scientific and technological elements appear very frequently, and all kinds of high-tech and intelligent agricultural machinery have been put on duty, and the past "physical work" has become "technical work".

Smart irrigation provides a greener and more efficient solution for agricultural development. "If the field needs to be irrigated, the gate can be opened automatically by clicking on the corresponding option on the system platform. The staff told reporters that in the past, irrigation was more labor-intensive and time-consuming, and it took two hours to walk back and forth on the ridges of each field under management. Today, the Internet of Things equipment and control platform independently developed by the team have effectively replaced the manual opening and closing of the gate and field investigation, successfully solved the problem of efficient water-saving irrigation for grain planting in agricultural production, realized the intelligent control and precise irrigation of the whole process from the pump room to the field intake and drainage, and increased the per capita water management area from 100 mu to 1,000 mu.

A view of the unmanned farm

The wide application of unmanned agricultural machinery has greatly saved labor and improved production efficiency. Relying on Beidou satellite navigation and positioning technology, unmanned agricultural machinery can operate in an orderly manner according to the planned path in the field. The reporter learned in the farm that unmanned agricultural machinery has the functions of land preparation, rice transplanting, plant protection, harvesting, etc., and the management personnel only need to set the route and task, and these agricultural machines can go to work in the field by themselves, and they can also automatically return to the warehouse after the operation is completed. Thanks to the continuous progress of agricultural science and technology, farming is no longer the hard work of "facing the loess and facing the sky".

Save money and increase income during the festival

Farm management reduces costs and increases efficiency

It is understood that based on the actual agricultural production, the agricultural development group has built seven key modules of farmland, agricultural time, agricultural machinery, agronomy, agricultural management, agricultural materials and agriculture, relying on the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies to realize unmanned and intelligent management of key scenarios.

At present, this set of digital and intelligent agricultural production scenarios has been piloted in 20,000 acres of farms outside the group, which has been proved to save 80% of labor, 20% of water and electricity, 10% of weight loss, and achieve the goal of increasing grain production by 5%. Luo Jing, general manager of the Information Center of Bright Agricultural Development Group, said that the next will continue to be piloted and promoted in Chongming, and strive to build a national leading demonstration benchmark for the digital transformation of unmanned farms of 10,000 mu, and shape a new model of digital transformation of Shanghai's high-standard grain fields.

"In the future, we will continue to upgrade and transform intelligent agricultural machinery and equipment, build an intelligent production management system, continuously enhance the deep integration of information technology and the rice and wheat industry, and focus on unmanned farms as demonstration sites to carry out intelligent production demonstrations in the whole process of planting production. Luo Jing said.

The "Shanghai Action Plan for Promoting High-quality Agricultural Development (2021-2025)" clearly states that by 2025, 100,000 acres of unmanned grain production farms will be built. The gradual implementation of smart scenarios is also outlining the future of the industry.
