About the winery

At the end of the 80s of the 20th century, Swiss winemaker George Fromm and winemaker Hatsch Kalberer, also from Switzerland, met and decided to create Fromm in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Franc Winery has built an international reputation for producing a range of wines that are both European and New Zealand, and has been ranked in the top 50 of New Zealand's best wineries in 2022 by The Real Review.

In 2008, Georges Franc returned to Switzerland and shifted his focus to his family-owned winery in Switzerland. Today, the winery is owned by Pol Lenzinger, an old friend of the Flon family, who runs the winery together with co-owner Stephan Walliser and his business partner George Walliser from Switzerland.

In terms of viticulture, Château Fran has always adhered to environmentally friendly cultivation methods and does not use any chemicals, so that the wines produced can more authentically express their terroir. Adhering to the principle of "terroir over technology, quality over yield", Château Franc is committed to using dry farming to manage its vineyards with zero irrigation. In this way, water is conserved, and the grapes produce better fruit and more intense flavors.
