The story takes place in a dilapidated old courtyard in a Beijing hutong, where an elderly man living alone and a poor student studying in the north drift become a landlord-tenant relationship. The simple picture, without strong dramatic conflict, is like plainly telling the story that will happen around us, but it makes people cry, or think of their grandparents and grandparents, or rethink whether the care and companionship of the elders in the family is enough.
When she first came, the old lady was a shrewd and eccentric person, stubborn, mean, defensive, and calculating. The female college student ponies are full of vitality, act in a fiery manner, reckless and clever, but also kind and upright. At the end of the movie, the sick old lady is sent to a nursing home by her adopted daughter, and when the pony goes to see her again, the old lady who can't speak holds the pony's hand tightly, silently wiping her tears, and her eyes are helpless and unwilling.
In the end, the old lady died alone. I raised a daughter and had a grandchild, but I couldn't even go back to the house where I had lived for decades.
