Sun Boxiang, born in November 1934, is a native of Wuqing, Tianjin. He used to be a director of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, a member of the Calligraphy Creation Review Committee, and the vice chairman of the Tianjin Calligraphers Association.
Mr. Sun Boxiang is a leading figure in contemporary Chinese calligraphy, especially in the field of Beibei calligraphy. He has won the 11th Plastic Arts Achievement Award of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the 5th China Calligraphy Pavilion Award.
Sun Boxiang has been obsessed with Hanmo all his life, advocating stele learning, devoting himself to the stele school, constantly exploring, and constantly improving, forming a very individual stele art style. With his own unique understanding, he endowed the spiritual image of contemporary people in the Wei tablet calligraphy. He once said: "Without accumulation, it is rare to have a wonderful chapter, there is no long time, and it is difficult to have a moment." This is also a portrayal of his lifelong dedication to Hanmo.
In his later years, Sun Boxiang still worked hard, and in 2017, he wrote the brush word "Fu" unveiled at the Spring Festival Gala, and he also wrote the title for the large-scale cultural program "Looking for Ancient China" on the main station.
In 2021, Sun Boxiang held the "New Learning" calligraphy and painting art exhibition at the Tianjin Art Museum, exhibiting more than 100 newly created works.
On November 26, 2023, Sun Boxiang's 90 calligraphy and painting exhibition was held at the Sun Boxiang Art Museum in Tianjin, exhibiting 90 pieces of calligraphy and painting created by Sun Boxiang, most of which are recent new works, focusing on the times, close to life, rich in content and with their own styles. Among them, the calligraphy works are ancient, strong and handsome, and the Chinese painting works are magnificent, fresh and natural.
