According to the official Weibo information of Sun Yat-sen University, on April 17, Lin Bin and Liu Xiangdong, chairman of the Lin Bin Liu Xiangdong Foundation, alumni of Sun Yat-sen University in 1986, donated 100 million yuan in cash to Sun Yat-sen University. At the same time, Academician Gao Song, President of Sun Yat-sen University and President of the Alumni Association, awarded Lin Bin the title of the first honorary trustee on behalf of the university.
"My mother, sister, brother-in-law, cousin, cousin, uncle, and more than a dozen other relatives are all graduates of Zhongshan Medicine, and our family is a CUHK person. My alma mater has laid the foundation for me to pursue a career path in life. Sun Yat-sen University is one of the best universities in my heart. I hope that more alumni can support the construction of their alma mater, and make a strong contribution to jointly build their alma mater into the best university in the world. According to official information, the 100 million yuan donated by Lin Bin and Liu Xiangdong is intended to be used for the construction of Lin Bin and Liu Xiangdong Cultural and Sports Center, the establishment of Lin Bin Liu Xiangdong Scholarship, Hong Danhua Scholarship and other projects.
Among them, Lin Bin Liu Xiangdong Cultural and Sports Center is planned to be built on the south campus of Guangzhou campus, with a preliminary planning area of 12,000 square meters, and indoor heated swimming pools, tennis courts, badminton courts and table tennis halls for teachers and students to exercise and relax.
The Lin Bin Liu Xiangdong Scholarship, named after Mr. and Mrs. Lin Bin and Liu Xiangdong, will be awarded in 10 installments and will reward 30 undergraduate and graduate students with excellent character and academic performance every year. Named after Lin Bin's mother, the Hung Tamhua Scholarship will inspire 10 medical students each year.
It is worth mentioning that in November 2023, during the 130th anniversary celebration of Wuhan University, Lei Jun, a 1987 alumnus of the Department of Computer Science of Wuhan University and founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, donated 1.3 billion yuan to his alma mater. The donation mainly focuses on three directions: supporting the basic research of mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature, history and philosophy, supporting scientific and technological innovation in the field of computer, and supporting the training of college students.
