There are worms in the intestines and anus, and they are still alive! These habits are easy to "get into trouble."

66-year-old Lao Wang (pseudonym) works in the countryside all year round, often working barefoot in the field for convenience, and sometimes the fresh vegetables and fruits in the field are eaten without washing and scrubbing......

There are worms in the intestines and anus, and they are still alive!

Recently, Lao Wang went to the deputy chief physician Zhang Jie of the Department of Spleen and Stomach Diseases of Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for painless endoscopy.

When the probe reached near the anus, it was found that a reddish-brown worm was constantly wriggling, and there were also worms in the descending duodenum. After pathological examination, it was determined to be hookworm.

"The patient drank a lot of laxatives and still had bugs, which means that there may have been more bugs. Zhang Jie said that because he has not yet shown other symptoms, it is still easy to treat.

Subsequently, Zhang Jie prescribed insecticides to Lao Wang, and he can generally recover after 2-3 courses of treatment.

Hookworms can be infected through the skin and mouth

Ye Wei, director of the Department of Spleen and Gastroenterology, explained that hookworm adults are only about 1cm long and parasitic in the duodenum and small intestine of humans, mainly sucking human blood for nutrition.

Each hookworm lays tens of thousands of eggs a day, and these hookworm eggs are excreted in the feces, and under the right conditions, the hookworm eggs can hatch into larval hookworms.

Uncinchovy are smaller, only 0.25 mm long and 0.019 mm thick, invisible to the naked eye, and often live in moist topsoil.

There are two ways for hookworms to enter the body:

skin

In the hookworm infection stage, its larvae can invade the body through small lesions in hair follicles, sweat glands, or skin if they come into contact with the body, causing infection.

Oral

Hookworms are also susceptible to hookworm infection if you eat raw vegetables containing filamentous larvae, or when you eat undercooked pigs, cows, or lamb meat that are infected with hookworms.

When a pregnant woman is infected with hookworm, its larvae can also infect the fetus through the placenta.

If you have symptoms, go to the hospital promptly

Hookworms suck blood in the intestines, causing intestinal damage and bleeding, and secrete anticoagulant when sucking blood, causing the bite mucosal wound to bleed continuously.

Moreover, hookworms are not fixed in one position to suck blood, and the blood-sucking site has to be changed several times a day.

1

Mild infection

In the early stage, it is mainly manifested as malnutrition and digestive disorders, abdominal discomfort and vague pain, followed by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc., and a few have heterophilia.

2

Severe infection

Gastrointestinal bleeding, severe anemia symptoms (such as sallow skin, pale mucous membranes, palpitation, dizziness, fatigue) may occur. More severe patients may present with hypoproteinemia, which manifests as facial and generalized edema, particularly of the lower extremities.

How can I prevent hookworm infection?

➤ When cultivating crops, try not to fertilize them with fresh human manure that has not been harmlessly treated.

➤ Strengthen personal protection, and try not to work and touch the soil with bare hands and feet as much as possible.

➤ Pay attention to personal hygiene and develop the habit of washing hands before eating and after using the toilet.

➤ Pay attention to food hygiene, wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly before eating, and do not eat raw or undercooked vegetables and meat.
