At about 19 o'clock on April 12, the Chengguan Police Station of the Youxi County Public Security Bureau received a call from Mr. Huang, a member of the public in the jurisdiction, to report that he was tricked by criminals into turning on the screen sharing of his mobile phone by using the "Facetime" video call on his iPhone, and transferred more than 133,000 yuan on the grounds of closing the micro loan. After receiving the police, the police immediately contacted Mr. Huang, and while asking about the relevant information of the case, the police contacted the anti-fraud team of the command center to carry out the work of stopping the payment of funds to the fraudulent account, and the two transfers were successfully stopped, saving 83,001 yuan.
In order to ensure the safety of the remaining funds in Mr. Huang's card, the police guided him to take a series of remedial measures such as changing the bank card password and restarting his mobile phone, and explained to him the common and frequent types of telecommunication fraud, so as to prevent him from encountering fraud again.
❖ What is the FaceTime feature?
FaceTime is a video calling app launched by Apple's mobile phone, after connecting to the network, two devices equipped with FaceTime can make video calls through mobile phone numbers or Apple IDs.
FaceTime's video call feature can be used by strangers to make one-way calls, which is potentially exploited for telecom fraud, spam harassment, and video fraud.
❖ Analysis of fraud methods
Fraudsters use the FaceTime function of Apple mobile phones to impersonate customer service personnel such as banks, Alipay, WeChat, JD.com, etc., claiming that there is a problem with the victim's personal funds or loan account and that they need to cooperate with the operation, otherwise it will affect their personal credit reporting, and then trick the victim into turning on the screen sharing function to verify the funds, cancel the account and other reasons, so that the victim can transfer all the money in his name to the so-called "safe account".
1. The official customer service will not communicate with you through Facetime, personal social accounts, etc. 2. Employees who claim to be micro loans, Alipay, million guarantees, banks and other staff who claim to transfer money on the grounds of adjusting interest rates, deducting fees when due, and affecting credit investigation are all frauds. 3. Do not answer video requests from strangers at will, protect the privacy of personal facial information, do not share personal information such as verification codes and passwords with others, and remember not to turn on screen sharing with strangers.
