Everything grows, and spring flowers bloom. In this beautiful season, mental health education is also like the sunshine of spring, warming the hearts of children. Combined with the implementation of the project of "Research on the Construction and Practice of the "Four Paths" Mental Health Education Model in County Primary Schools" and the project requirements of "Research on the Application of Picture Books in Mental Health Education in Primary Schools", Binhu Primary School in Wuwei City organized teachers of the mental health research group to attend 12 open classes on mental health.
Year 1 Open Class
In the mental health class "Don't Procrastinate, Act Now", teacher Song Xiaoxia can design and organize teaching based on the physiological characteristics and cognitive level of first-grade children. By watching the picture book story "Don't Procrastinate, Act Now", students are guided to understand "procrastination" from perceptual cognition to a deep understanding of "procrastination", and then to know how to stay away from procrastination.
In the lesson "I'm so sad", Ms. Fang Yuan, a teacher from the Chengbei Campus of Binhu Primary School, read the picture book "I'm so sad" with the students, and the students understood that sadness is a gray and tired feeling; learned that the little guinea pig actively dissolves emotions by talking to someone and chatting with others; and learned that everyone should learn to do something interesting when they are sad and make their mood lighter.
Year 2 Open Class
Teacher Ge Jiuzhou organized students to play interactive games and read the picture book story "Don't Be Distracted, Don't Be Distracted", and guided the children to learn many ways to eliminate external and internal distractions and improve their concentration. In a happy atmosphere, the children realized that only by concentrating can they do a good job efficiently.
In the mental health class "Cooperate with You, Me and Him", teacher Guan Dandan carried out teaching activities around the theme of "cooperation", introducing interesting games, reading the wonderful picture book "Ants and Watermelons", and rich practical activities...... Let students learn through play and understand in learning. The students were active and engaged in class, showing a good spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
3rd Year Open Class
In the lesson "The Metamorphosis of Little Black Dots", Sun Wangning, a teacher from Chengnan Campus of Experimental Primary School, guided students to face the "little black dots" on their bodies through the reading of the picture book story "Little Black Dots", and finally encouraged each student to make big innovations in small black dots, and realize that everyone is a unique existence in painting. This lesson aims to guide students to face up to their own shortcomings and cultivate students' optimistic and confident psychological qualities through picture book reading and psychological painting.
In the mental health class "Little Career Dream", Xu Jinli let the children have an in-depth understanding of the characteristics and requirements of different occupations in activities such as looking, thinking, drawing, and writing. Students understand that there is no distinction between high and low careers, and realize that only if they work hard enough can the seeds of the small career dream in their hearts blossom and bear fruit.
Fourth-year open class
In the mental health class "The Magic of Being Seen", teacher Huang Ruijuan of Wuwei No. 1 Middle School used the picture book "Nothing" to guide students to realize that everyone has the need to be seen, and if they want to be seen, they need to take the initiative to find a way and then put it into action. Finally, through the "My Magic Book" design activity, students are guided to try to find a way to make themselves visible.
In the mental health class "Be a Good Listener", teacher Wu Liping organized students to read the picture book "Are You Listening to Me?", guiding students to observe the development of picture book stories and experience the mood of the characters. In class, students vividly performed various situations of confiding but not being listened to, and gradually realized the true meaning of listening: with a good listening ear and a willing heart, we will have more friends.
5th grade open class
Zhao Yueqin, a teacher from No. 11 Middle School, taught a mental health class "Emotional Detective: Exploring Anger", leading students to read the picture book "Angry Soup" in three paragraphs, guiding students to understand that anger is a normal emotional response, and often getting angry will affect people's health; students actively communicate their emotional experiences when they are angry, share ways and methods to relieve angry emotions; and finally guide students to create ways and methods to maintain their happiness by drawing "My Source of Happiness".
Through the warm-up game, students experienced the different psychological feelings of language acceptance and rejection to themselves and others, and guided everyone to correctly deal with interpersonal conflicts through discussion and continuation of the picture book story "Good Friends Can Say "No". Students realize that saying "no" correctly not only does not destroy friendships, but rather is an expression of assertiveness, trust, and respect for friends, and that sincerity and autonomy make friendships stronger.
6th grade open class
The psychology lesson "Human Growth Width and Height" taught by Mr. Wang Yu of the Experimental Primary School made the sixth grade students fully realize that the meaning of life is not in the length, but in the width and height. Teacher Wang and the students watched the picture book "Grandpa's Angel" together, and the students realized that the angels who can bring good luck to themselves are actually ourselves, and our own attitude towards life. How can we see a rainbow without experiencing wind and rain? The students said that they would face life and life with a positive attitude, cherish life and live a value.
In the mental health class "Comforting Little Masters" taught by Ms. Zhang Weining, students learned to use empathy superpowers to understand others' inner feelings and express their concerns for others through reading the picture book "I Have Superpowers-The Power of Empathy", and practiced using their empathy superpowers to effectively comfort others through situational performances, analysis and discussion and other activities.
Thematic Discussion
After the end of the open class, the teachers of the research group had a heated discussion on how to use picture books to improve the teaching effect of mental health classes, and sparks of wisdom burst out in the collision of ideas. Through this teaching and research activity, the teachers of the research group have improved their ability to apply picture books in mental health education courses, improved the teaching effect of mental health education courses, and helped students grow up healthy and happy.
