Guard the "silver-haired" wallet and be wary of nine types of fraud

For some time, "pension scams" targeting silver-haired people have emerged in an endless stream. Criminals take advantage of the elderly's concern for the elderly to carry out fraud, some hold health classes for the elderly, some hold product promotion meetings for the elderly, and some hold product investment seminars for the elderly. In short, the purpose of scammers is only one, that is, to defraud the elderly of their pension money, and tricks make the elderly unable to prevent it.

Guard the "silver-haired" wallet and be wary of nine types of fraud

Criminals have committed the criminal act of defrauding the elderly of "pension money" and "body money", which not only causes economic losses to the elderly, seriously infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of the elderly, but also causes serious psychological harm to the elderly and undermines social harmony and stability.

In order to protect the "pension money" of the elderly, the city's public security organs adhere to the principle of "propaganda + crackdown" synchronous planning and promotion, and make every effort to protect the "pension money" of the elderly, so as to create a good social environment for the elderly to enjoy their old age.

At the end of last year, the Jishan County Public Security Bureau cracked a series of pension fraud cases under the guise of peddling "ancestral plasters", arrested one criminal suspect, and seized more than 20 counterfeit plasters, pills and a number of plaster making equipment.

"My ancestral plaster with small pills can treat all kinds of incurable diseases. One day in July last year, a woman who called herself "Dr. Yang" came to a village in Sun Township, Jishan County, claiming that she could treat lower back and leg pain. In order to further gain the trust of the villagers, "Doctor Yang" asked the onlookers to try homemade plasters and pills for free. After trying out the plasters and taking the pills, "Dr. Yang" said that if he wanted to continue the treatment, he would have to spend money to buy them, and dozens of villagers were lured to buy the plasters and pills. Subsequently, after the villagers transferred the money to "Dr. Yang", "Dr. Yang" "disappeared".

A few months later, the villagers found out that they had been deceived and went to the Jishan County Public Security Bureau to report to the police. Because there was no real identity information of "Dr. Yang", the police conducted an analysis and judgment of the QR code of "Dr. Yang" by visiting the victims, and only then did they determine the identity of "Dr. Yang". With the cooperation of the Taiyuan Railway Police, "Dr. Yang" was finally arrested.

After investigation, at the beginning of May last year, the suspect Yang (female, 60 years old, from Suizhou City, Hubei Province) came to Jishan County with these homemade "ancestral plasters", and after renting a residence on the edge of the city, he rode an electric bicycle to the surrounding countryside to publicize, so that the elderly could use these plasters without any signs for free. Once a large number of victims paid for a one-time course of treatment, Yang absconded and then lured them in the same way.

The so-called "ancestral plasters" are made from cypress oil refining and flour, and the "pills" are made from hawthorn pills and flour at almost zero cost and do nothing to help the villagers with their diseases. From May to October last year, Yang illegally made a profit of more than 30,000 yuan in the county seat of Jishan County and the surrounding countryside.

Guard the "silver-haired" wallet and be wary of nine types of fraud

"This is a classic case of 'health product fraud'. In this case, the criminals took advantage of the elderly to pay attention to health preservation, and deliberately exaggerated the efficacy of 'health care products' under the guise of dispelling diseases and strengthening the body, and home remedies have miraculous effects, so as to induce the elderly to make purchases, so as to commit fraud. The relevant person in charge of the Jishan County Public Security Bureau said.

"Crack down on a group, deter a group, and educate one party", the municipal public security organs encourage the masses to remind each other and actively report, so that all kinds of pension frauds have nowhere to hide. At the same time, it also reminds the elderly friends to take the initiative to enhance the awareness of anti-fraud, first, to see whether the pension service, pension project, or investment is provided by institutions with formal qualifications; second, to resist the temptation of high interests; third, to refuse to listen to the so-called "acquaintances", "can save money" and other lies, fourth, to correct the concept of health care, and fifth, to communicate more with family members.

There are nine common types of elderly-related scams

The first category: the provision of elderly care services

Fraudsters lure elderly customers to so-called pension bases and welfare homes for visits and plays, and then illegally raise funds in the name of pre-selling pension beds.

Category 2: Financial investment

Slogans such as "limited edition" and "peerless collection" are often used by criminals to attract investment from the elderly, promising to auction commemorative coins in the short term to "double the revenue".

Category 3: Low-cost shopping

Criminals publish information on the transfer of low-priced second-hand items, and once they contact them, they will defraud the elderly of money on the grounds of paying deposits, handling fees, etc.

Category 4: Free gifts

Under the guise of giving away eggs and fruits for free, fraudsters rent a venue to promote "health care products" to the elderly, and exaggerate the efficacy of the products to tempt the elderly, so as to commit fraud.

Category 5: Low-cost tourism

Travel agencies attract the elderly to join group tours with the gimmick of low-cost tours and free tours, arrange various shopping in the process of travel, and sell goods to the elderly at prices many times higher than the market price.

Category 6: Pretending to be a winner

Criminals send text messages to the elderly in the name of the TV program group, and commit fraud on the grounds that they have been selected as the lucky viewer of the program and need to pay handling fees and security deposits to get bonuses.

Category 7: Impersonation of the Public Procuratorate

Fraudsters usually pretend to be public security and law enforcement personnel, take advantage of the weak legal awareness of the elderly, and take measures such as claiming to carry out arrests and paying security deposits to defraud the elderly of their money.

Category 8: "Twilight Love"

For the elderly who are single, after developing into online dating through the Internet, they make up various reasons to ask for money, and then block the other party to complete the fraud.

Category 9: Impersonating relatives and friends

After the criminals use illegal means to obtain the information of the elderly, they disguise themselves as relatives and friends of the elderly, and send text messages on the grounds of borrowing money, emergency relief, etc., asking the elderly to transfer money to them.
