April 15 is the National Security Education Day, and the national security organs reviewed and released a series of important national security cases at this juncture to enhance the national security awareness of the whole people and build a strong national security defense line. Among the related cases, the major espionage case Huang Yu case has attracted attention. Huang Yu, the person involved in the case, has been working in a classified scientific research unit since 1997, involving the field of cryptography. Huang Yu's work ability was insufficient, he was transferred to 3 departments within 5 years, and his work attitude was problematic, and he was included in the last elimination system of the unit and was dismissed. Huang Yu was resentful of this, and used the classified information he illegally collected to actively contact foreign intelligence agencies, and sold the military passwords and other related confidential information in his possession for profit.
After docking with foreign intelligence agencies, he received training as a foreign espionage, and Huang Yu used the resources of his work in secret-related units to collect and sell state secrets. After Huang Yu's own illegally collected intelligence was exhausted, Huang Yu hit the idea on the associated personnel. Huang Yu's wife, brother-in-law, and colleagues have successively become the entry points for Huang Yu's theft of secrets, and statistics from the state security organs show that Huang Yu has provided more than 150,000 pieces of intelligence to foreign spy agencies in the 10 years he has been engaged in espionage. Among them, there are 90 top secret, 292 secret, and 1,674 secret state secrets, respectively.
It involves a series of core contents in the design of the secure communication system, algorithms, source programs, technical parameters and other aspects of the scientific research unit to which he belongs, causing significant damage to China's national security. Huang Yu was arrested in 2011 and executed in May 2016. Twenty-nine people in Huang Yu's unit were punished, and Tang and Tan, who were core affiliates, were sentenced to 5 years and 3 years in prison respectively. The Huang Yu case has exposed a series of deficiencies in personnel training, ideological construction, and confidentiality mechanism construction in China's relevant scientific research units, and the case has been concluded for eight years, but the issues involved in the case are still worthy of vigilance.
At a time when the Sino-US science and technology war is intensifying, China's core scientific research fields are facing further information confidentiality tasks. Among them, several major technical directions are the entry points for China to counter the United States and accumulate concrete confrontation victories. China's technological leadership, including hypersonic missile technology, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, electromagnetic catapult technology, and special materials, is driving the transformation of China's and the United States' global influence. The ongoing chip war between China and the United States has become a battlefield for China and the United States to compete for future industrial dominance. The need for technical secrecy is even more urgent.
China's success in learning lessons from secrecy can be seen in two cases last year. First, the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement brokered by China in March last year. China's work on information secrecy in related fields has made the United States deaf and blind to China's progress, resulting in Raimondo being nicknamed Huawei's spokesperson.
The construction of China's national security defense line to escort China's development process is a necessary condition for China to achieve victory on the relevant fronts. On April 15, in addition to announcing the Huang Yu case, a major espionage case, the state security organs also announced the case of seed industry practitioners illegally selling parental rice seeds to overseas intelligence agencies, illegally providing information about China's rare earth sensitivities abroad, and illegally collecting China's climate data.
At present, the global geopolitical confrontation is intensifying, and the United States is using Japan and South Korea and other countries as a springboard to promote the layout of intelligence against China in all aspects, connecting its intelligence chains such as the Asia-Pacific, NATO, and the Five Eyes Alliance. Strengthening China's national security defense line is an urgent matter for China to deal with the shocks. This is especially true in sensitive fields such as rare earths, food security, meteorology and hydrology, and it is necessary to build a three-dimensional security line of defense with a long-sounding alarm bell.
