Recently, a message of "girls report water delivery uncles" came out on the confession wall of a school, which became the focus of heated discussions in the whole school. Rumor has it that a roommate in the No. 6 girls' dormitory building somehow reported the uncle who had been delivering water between the dormitory buildings for a long time.
Without full verification and communication, the school made a straightforward decision to let the uncle no longer deliver water to the girls' dormitory. This decision obviously disregarded the reasonable requests of other students, and directly led to the fact that the female dormitory building would not be able to obtain a water supply normally except for purchasing water at its own expense, which caused a lot of inconvenience to many female students. After the news spread, all the students went to the confession wall to express their opinions.
It is obvious to all that this female classmate who took the initiative to report obviously lacks rationality and calmness in the judgment criteria. As a mature college student, she should look at problems from a holistic and macro perspective, rather than making such a hasty decision simply out of personal "security" and "privacy".
After all, the work of the water delivery master itself is to provide convenient services to all students, and they are all qualified personnel who have been approved and managed by the school, and it is difficult to pose a substantial hazard to students. In addition, compared to the result of directly depriving the hundreds of girls in the entire building of the water supply, it is more appropriate and thoughtful to directly refuse to accept the water source in their own room to express their concerns, or to discuss with the school about the installation of surveillance.
The biggest problem, however, is that the school administration has made hasty decisions. As decision-makers in public affairs, they have a responsibility to investigate the truth in its entirety and to provide an opportunity for all parties to communicate and participate. Directly adopting a "one-size-fits-all" result ignores the needs of other students and lacks due sympathy and understanding.
This deprives a prudent and impartial standard of decision-making. They seem to attach too much importance to the concerns of the "individual" to the deeper interests of the "whole". This act of "managing black humor" undoubtedly continues to add fuel to the already impetuous online debate.
On its own, neither side has shown enough empathy and inclusiveness. But after all, they are all young students, and their vision and ability are inevitably limited. As mature mentors, it is the responsibility of the school management to look at the overall situation with a wise eye and make fair and rational choices. They should not arbitrarily change the institutional arrangements because of an abrupt conclusion, ignoring the actual needs of the majority of the people. This may be the point of reflection in this incident.
The heated discussion among students on the Internet actually includes the pursuit of fairness and justice. We all want to see a harmonious and respectful campus environment. Therefore, administrators should replace unilateral decisions with tolerance and communication, conduct substantive exchanges with students, and find a balanced system adjustment plan.
It is only through rational communication and cooperation that incidents can be best resolved. We believe that through joint efforts, all parties will be able to feel respect and satisfaction. It will also be a valuable experience for us to learn the spirit of cooperation.
