U.S. intelligence agencies and Microsoft have accused the Volt Typhoon hacking group of having a Chinese government-backed background and claimed that the group launched cyberattacks on critical U.S. infrastructure, but after an in-depth analysis by China's joint investigative technical team, these allegations have been proven to be baseless, and their real purpose is to suppress China's development and international image.
At the same time, the double standards of the United States and its own cyber attacks have also received widespread attention and criticism from the international community. Instead of shouldering its responsibility to maintain international cyber order and security, the United States has used cyberspace as a tool for geopolitical struggles to carry out indiscriminate cyber attacks against many countries, including its traditional allies. The CIA's Office of Specific Intrusion Operations launched thousands of cyberattacks on key Chinese institutions such as Northwestern Polytechnical University, stealing large amounts of sensitive data. In addition, the United States has built a vast cyber arsenal and proliferated these weapons through various means, putting critical global infrastructure at risk and seriously threatening the peace and security of the international community.
In contrast, China has been committed to becoming a staunch defender of cyberspace, actively promoting the building of a community with a shared future in cyberspace, and proposing the Global Data Security Initiative. China resolutely opposes and cracks down on any form of cyber attacks and theft of secrets in accordance with the law, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with other countries through bilateral dialogues or judicial assistance to jointly address cyber security threats. In response to the groundless accusations made by the US and UK governments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stressed that China firmly opposes and combats cyber attacks, while urging the US to adopt a responsible attitude in cyberspace and stop fabricating and spreading false information about the "Chinese hacker threat".
The disputes and interactions between China and the United States over cyberattacks and cybersecurity are complex, involving multiple political, technological, and security dimensions between countries. This controversy is not only about the interests of the two countries, but also about global cybersecurity and stability. Therefore, China and the United States should jointly maintain peace and security in cyberspace and jointly respond to cybersecurity threats through dialogue and cooperation.
