In the tranquil waters of the Galapagos Islands, superyachts and expedition ships are commonplace. However, Ecuador-based destination management company Via Natura plans to introduce a new ultra-luxury catamaran in this mesmerizing body of water, tailored for ultra-high-net-worth travellers looking for the ultimate luxury experience.

To celebrate 30 years of creating transformational experiences in Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands and Peru, Via Natura's CEO Esteban Velásquez unveiled the remarkable project last month at The Essence of Luxury Travel show in Serandipians, Marbella, Spain.

The 47.8-metre (157-foot) long Hermes – not directly related to the Hermès we are familiar with, but belongs to a similarly exclusive brand – is designed to meet the needs of high-net-worth travelers. Via Natura says it will be the second largest recreational catamaran in the world and the largest on the South American archipelago.

Despite its size, the Hermès retains the utmost privacy and sophistication. It accommodates only a maximum of 20 guests per voyage, creating a unique experience for each guest. The crew-to-passenger ratio on board is close to 1:1, ensuring that every passenger can enjoy a five-star service. Round-the-clock butlers are on hand to attend to your every need.

On the main and upper decks, 12 spacious convertible suites form a luxurious retreat. These include 10 entry-level suites measuring 35 square meters and two single suites measuring 20 square meters. Each suite is equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows, a walk-in closet, a private bathroom, a minibar and a beautifully landscaped private balcony with a Jacuzzi, allowing you to enjoy the sea breeze and the company of the view while savoring your meal.

In addition to the spacious and comfortable suites, the ship also integrates multiple upscale social spaces indoors and outdoors, and the compact multi-hull also provides amenities similar to those of a large cruise ship. The spacious pre-function area leads to a modern interior with two luxurious lounges, a well-stocked library and a spa, which features a hammam that allows you to enjoy the sea breeze while overlooking the stunning views of the sea. Step inside and an aperitif lounge area and spacious balcony await you. On the balcony, the alfresco dining area, observation area and Jacuzzi are dotted together, while sunbeds lie quietly on either side.

In addition, you can make delicious local dishes and cocktails with your own hands with cooking classes and cocktail classes to make your trip even more colorful.

It is worth mentioning that since the Galapagos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Hermès opted for a more fuel-efficient propulsion system than conventional installations to help curb pollution. Although not fully electric, it is less damaging to the environment. "We can't go further because of the infrastructure constraints on the islands, as well as the restrictions on battery use," said Esteban Velásquez. He added that the company has also launched a reforestation program to replant endangered Galapagos native trees on 9 hectares of private land in the area. Not only does this help with tree planting, but it also gives visitors the opportunity to get involved and contribute to this magical land.

Commenting on the project, Velásquez said: "For a long time, there was a feeling that there weren't really too many luxury cruise ships in the Galapagos. "Many people believe that charging large sums of money means luxury, and other operators of new ships see having larger rooms as a luxury as well. But that's not the case. ”

"What we wanted to offer was a kind of boat with a larger boat service in an intimate superyacht environment. I always felt that the Galapagos did not have such a product, and that this market was not satisfied. This market is the one that is available for yacht charters in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. ”

When conceiving its vessels, Via Natura was conceived with the intention of retrofitting existing vessels. However, in the early stages of the project, when Velásquez was in the Mediterranean looking at potential boat acquisition deals, he realised that to meet the needs of today's ultra-high-net-worth individuals, bespoke projects were key.

At the same time, Via Natura chose to build the catamaran in Ecuadorian soil, taking advantage of the strengths of local manufacturers and craftsmen, not only supporting the national economy, but also providing more room for adjustment during the construction phase.

With the super catamaran "Hermès", Via Natura is targeting the market between 40 and 60-70 years old, while also attracting the younger generation of tourists in their 30s. The first hull of the catamaran will be launched in August 2024 and delivery is expected in November 2024. After sea trials, it will embark on its first commercial voyage in April 2025. Prices start at $6,195 for a three-night adventure in a double or single suite, with $117705 for a private charter. Such a price is undoubtedly the ultimate demonstration of your noble status, and it is also the best investment in your adventure dreams.
