The Nintendo Switch Online service has added three games for subscribers to play, two of which were previously only released in Japan. The three new games added to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription are Super R-Type, Amazing Hebereke, and Wrecking Crew '98. All three retro games were released on SNES and were all underrated titles.
The basic version of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service gives players access to a wide range of NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games. The Expansion Pass Tier expands the game library to include Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance games. Since the service was first launched in 2018, Nintendo has updated its catalog of games every month. The last SNES games to be added to the service were Battletoads and Killer Instinct in Battlemaniacs, at the end of February.
In a new trailer released by Nintendo, it was revealed that the three new games will be joining the service on April 12. One of them is Amazing Hebereke, a game developed by Sunsoft and released in 1994. Players battle it out in four-player matches. There are items and traps on the stage that can be exploited or avoided. The game can be played both single-player and multiplayer. Amazing Hebereke joins the Nintendo Switch Online service, making it one of the first games to be released in the West.
The second game shown in the trailer is Super R-Type, a side-scrolling space shooter developed and published in 1991 by Irem. As with other arcade space shooters of the era, the player controls a spaceship and collects power-ups to progress through seven challenging stages and bosses. Super R-Type also boasts multiple difficulty options to tweak the experience, with the easiest for beginners and the hardest for Pro.
The final game was Wrecking Crew '98, a Japan-only action puzzle game that was released later in the SNES life cycle, two years after the release of the Nintendo 64 console. A sequel to the original NES version, Wrecking Crew '98 pits players against a variety of opponents and completes a series of puzzles. Players can take control not only of Mario, but also of a number of old and new enemies, including Spike, the foreman who recently appeared as a supporting character in the Super Mario Bros. movie.
Like Amazing Hebereke, Wrecking Crew '98 was released in the West for the first time, as previous releases on the Wii web console were limited to Japan. Fans interested in this part of the history of the Mario series may be interested in the new additions to this service.
