In this article, I would like to introduce the latest developments in the DPRK from the following three points: First, the surprise visit of senior officials of the Russian intelligence services to the DPRK; second, the DPRK's first successful test firing of the Hwasong-16B; and third, Kim Jong-un's visit to the Kim Jong Military and Political University for on-the-spot guidance.
Two
The first is a surprise visit to the DPRK by senior officials of the Russian intelligence services.
On March 25, 26 and 27, 2024, a delegation of the Federal Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation visited Pyongyang, headed by Sergei Yevgenyevich Naryshkin, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation.
After learning about Naryshkin's past experience, I found that the specifications of this Russian delegation are particularly high.
Naryshkin, 70, two years younger than Putin, has been deputy prime minister and head of the Federal Office, rose to the position of chairman of the State Duma in 2011, and was appointed head of the Federal Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation in 2016.
From the chairman of the State Duma to the head of the intelligence service, the rank has decreased, but the importance has increased dramatically.
Needless to say, Naryshkin must be a person that Putin can trust, and Putin has worked in the intelligence system for more than a decade, and the depth of understanding and importance of intelligence work is self-evident.
During the three-day visit, DPRK State Defense Minister Ri Chang-dae and Naryshkin held talks, and leading cadres of the DPRK Ministry of Defense held working talks with members of the delegation of the Russian Federal Foreign Intelligence Service.
The topics discussed by the DPRK and Russia in the above-mentioned talks were extremely wide-ranging, including the development of the international situation, ensuring regional security, and deepening Russian-DPRK cooperation to cope with the pressure of external forces.
The talks between the two sides were always held in a comradely cordial and friendly atmosphere, and a comprehensive consensus was reached on relevant issues.

The second is the first successful test launch of the Hwasong-16B by North Korea.
On April 2, 2024, Kim Jong-un guided the test launch of the new medium- and long-range solid-fuel missile Dan "Hwasong-16B".
This is the second time this year that North Korea has conducted a test of equipment after a lapse of more than half a month, and it is also the second test launch of a long-range solid-fuel hypersonic guided Dan this year, and it is also the first time that North Korea has test-fired this type of Dan, which is equipped with a newly developed hypersonic gliding flight warhead, and the purpose of this test launch is to verify the overall design and technical characteristics of the missile Dan and test the reliability of the equipment system.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, the characteristics and performance of the hypersonic gliding flight warhead were verified by adjusting the range of the guided Dan to less than 1,000 kilometers during the test launch due to safety concerns, and controlling the flight speed and altitude by delaying the start of the second-stage engine and rapidly changing orbits in the active section.
The hypersonic gliding flight warhead separated from the guide Dan reached the altitude of the first apex of 101.1 km and the second vertex of 72.3 km along the predetermined trajectory, and finally landed accurately to the eastern sea area 1,000 km away from the pre-designed plan.
However, South Korea's Joint Staff Headquarters said on April 2, 2024, that South Korea captured a medium- and long-range ballistic missile launched by North Korea from the Pyongyang area into the eastern sea on the same day, which flew more than 600 kilometers and fell into the eastern sea.
South Korea's initial judgment is that North Korea may have tested a multi-stage solid-fuel engine tested last month with hypersonic equipment.
After the success of the test, Kim Jong-un commented that another deterrent strategic attack equipment that can demonstrate the superiority of North Korea's defense science and technology has been born, and this achievement has enabled us to achieve the full application of solid fuel in all levels of tactical, operational, and strategic-level guidance, and have the ability to carry controllable Dan heads and Hewu.
The success of this test once again shows that North Korea is making rapid progress in hypersonic equipment.
Four
The third is Kim Jong-un's on-the-spot guidance at Kim Jong Con Military and Political University.
On April 10, 2024, Kim Jong-un went to Kim Jong Gun's Military and Political University for on-site guidance, in which Kim Jong-un mentioned that if the enemy chooses to confront, North Korea will not hesitate to use all means to annihilate the enemy.
During the on-site instruction, Kim Jong Un went to the Operations Research Laboratory to learn about the combat curriculum on the spot, and inspected the student dormitories and canteens to inspect the logistics supply.
Kim Jong Military and Political University, the highest institution of military education in North Korea, is named after Kim Jong Il, the son of Kim Il Sung and the father of Kim Jong Un. Kim Jong Gun's Military and Political University became known to the outside world when it appeared at the military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea in October 2020 and was mentioned by the North Korean media for the first time.

In recent years, under the leadership of Kim Jong-un, the DPRK has not only comprehensively improved its equipment research and development capabilities and security defense capabilities, but has also continuously strengthened its partnerships, intelligence systems, and command personnel training.
