The 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject are announced

On April 10, the 2024QS World University Rankings by Subject were released.

The ranking provides an independent comparative analysis of more than 16,400 independent university programmes from more than 1,500 universities in 95 countries and territories around the world, covering 55 disciplines and grouped into five categories: Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences & Management.

In this ranking, Chinese mainland universities stand out from the global higher education system, ranking third, demonstrating their comprehensive academic impact, with a total of 882 programmes from 101 universities in 54 subjects – up from 851 in the previous year and second only to the US and UK.

According to statistics, Peking University has the largest number of disciplines on the list, with a total of 44, Fudan University has a total of 42, Tsinghua University has a total of 41, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Zhejiang University each have 40 on the list, and the total number of disciplines on the list ranks among the top 5 universities in Chinese mainland.

Chinese mainland has eight disciplines in the top 10, namely Tsinghua University (4), Peking University (2), China Agricultural University (1) and Shanghai Conservatory of Music (1).

123 disciplines from 22 Chinese mainland universities are among the top 50 in the world. Among them, 35 are from Peking University, 29 from Tsinghua University, 13 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and 10 from Fudan University and Zhejiang University each have 10 disciplines among the top 50 in the world.
