The Yaobian Tianmu bowl originated from the Chinese porcelain culture of the Song Dynasty. The uniqueness of this bowl lies in the peculiar enamel markings on the surface, which resemble a twinkling starry sky, full of mystery and beauty. Achieving this effect requires extremely high firing temperatures and precise glaze formulations, and any slight mistake can lead to failure.
In the Song Dynasty, the Yaobian Tianmu bowl was a very scarce treasure, usually only circulated among aristocratic families. Today, the only three complete Ayao Tengmu bowls in the world are in Japanese collections, and one of them is particularly striking for its wonderful markings.
In China, we no longer see the complete Yaobian Tianmu bowl, but in 2009 a fragment from the collection of the Guyue Guild in Hangzhou brought attention back to the spotlight. Although incomplete, this fragment once again confirms that China is the birthplace of the Yaobian Tianmu Bowl.
The road to recovery has not been easy, and although some imitations have appeared, it is still challenging to replicate its unique markings. Modern archaeological excavations and research offer us new hope that perhaps an undiscovered site hides a key secret.
For the Chinese nation, the Yaobian Tianmu bowl is not only a treasure, but also a valuable cultural heritage. Although it may take a long time to regain the lost art, as long as we remain persistent, we believe that this ancient skill will eventually be revived.
