In this 85-square-meter Japanese log-style small center, the lighting design plays a crucial role, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere for the whole home. When night falls, the lights come on, and this small home seems to be tightly wrapped in warm lights, and every inch of space is filled with the smell of home.

A symphony of downlights and spotlights

When I was first renovating, I was hesitant between downlights and spotlights. Later, I decided to go all but with spotlights, but in retrospect, I could have combined the two to create a richer lighting effect. The soft light of the downlights and the focus of the spotlights complement each other to add more depth to the home.

The color temperature and color rendering index of the light

I opted for a 9-watt fixture that guaranteed brightness without being too harsh. In terms of color rendering, I firmly believe that high-quality lighting can make everything in the home shine with a different kind of brilliance.

Therefore, I chose lamps with a color rendering index of 90 or higher to make the colors in my home more realistic and full. As for the color temperature, I chose 3000K warm light for the living room and dining room to create a warm and relaxing atmosphere, while the study room used 4000K white light, which is brighter and more refreshing, which helps to improve work efficiency.

The layout and spacing of the lights

I also put a lot of thought into the layout of the lights. The spotlight on the ceiling is installed in the center, 15 cm from the wall, which not only ensures the uniform distribution of light, but also avoids dazzling direct light. The spacing between the two spotlights is controlled at 80~90 cm, which will neither appear overcrowded nor leave obvious shadow areas.

The choice of the main light with regrets

Although the main lights in the home have a unique style, they now seem to be a bit outdated. If I decorate again, I will be more inclined to choose a design without main lights, so that the whole space is more concise and advanced. However, even the current main light design still adds a different charm to the home.

The key to lighting design

Looking back on this renovation experience, I deeply feel that the key to lighting design is to plan ahead. Only by fully considering the functional needs and aesthetic pursuits of each space can we create a lighting effect that truly meets our own wishes. If possible, it is undoubtedly a wise choice to find a professional lighting designer for consultation and planning.
