Since the inception of the Premier League, there have been many top goalscorers. Salah has overtaken former Liverpool hero Michael Owen to become the latest addition to the Premier League's all-time top 10 goalscorer.
Goalscorers such as Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero are typical of the list, with a number of players from bygone eras also making it into the top 10. Mohamed Salah was the only winger to be selected, and even a midfielder was selected. The other eight were all strikers, and their eyes were always on the goal, doing everything they could to get the ball into the net.

Salah has been a consistent and prolific goalscorer since moving to Anfield from Roma in 2017. In his first season with Liverpool, he broke the Premier League's record of 38 games, scoring 32 goals, although that record has now been broken by Erling Haaland. His lowest goal season for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool came in 2019/20 and 2022/23, when he still scored 19 goals.
9. Jermaine Defoe - 162 goals

Jermaine Defoe played for a number of Premier League teams until he was 39 years old. Over the past 15 years, Defoe has played for West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland, scoring double-digit goals in the Premier League. The England striker scored most of his goals for Tottenham in two different spells, scoring 91 goals in the white shirt.
Defoe's best season in the Premier League came in 15/16 when he scored 15 goals in 22 games for Sunderland. Defoe may not be the biggest name on this list, but he deserves to be honored for his outstanding consistency over such a long period of time, and he deserves to be the ninth highest scorer in Premier League history.
8. Robbie Fowler - 163 goals
Premier League teams played: Liverpool, Leeds United, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers
Robbie Fowler rose to prominence in the early days of the Premier League, scoring 25 goals in 1994/95 and surpassing that record with 28 goals the following season. Although Fowler also contributed double-figure goals for Leeds United and Manchester City, he was never able to score 20 goals in a single Premier League season.
7. Thierry Henry - 175 goals

Thierry Henry was an iconic Arsenal figure and was a key part of the 2003/04 Armada team. Unsurprisingly, it was his best season for the Gunners, with Thierry Henry scoring 30 goals for Arsenal to help them unbeaten in the league.
After the unbeatable season, Henry did not stop scoring, scoring 25 and 27 goals in the next two seasons. Shortly thereafter, his glory days at Arsenal came to an end with a move to Barcelona, but in the 2011/12 season Thierry Henry returned to Arsenal and scored a goal in four games. Thierry Henry is one of them, if not the greatest player in Premier League history.
6. Frank Lampard - 177 goals
Premier League teams played for: West Ham United, Chelsea and Manchester City
Frank Lampard is the only midfielder on the list, having started his career at West Ham United, but his most glorious period was with Chelsea, where he was a key member of Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side that dominated English football in the mid-2000s, winning two Premier League titles and a string of cup titles. There may be debate as to whether he is the best versatile midfielder in Premier League history, but there is no doubt that he is the best midfielder to get into the box and shoot.
Frank Lampard has scored in double figures in the Premier League in 10 consecutive seasons, the best of which was in 2009/10 when his 22 goals helped the Blues win the Premier League title again. Frank Lampard is arguably one of the best midfielders in Premier League history, and with his record, it's hard to argue. After leaving Stamford Bridge to move to Manchester City, Frank Lampard added six more goals to his side, including one against his former club.
5. Sergio Aguero - 184 goals

Sergio Aguero's spell at Manchester City ended in the summer of 2021 and the striker left not only as one of City's all-time top scorers, but also one of the Premier League's all-time top scorers. In his final season at Manchester City, Sergio Aguero's goalscoring prowess may have diminished, as he scored just four league goals, but until then he has been a goalscoring machine. Sergio Aguero has scored 20 or more Premier League goals in six of his 10 seasons at Manchester City. Sergio Aguero's best result came in 2014/15 when he scored 26 goals. Against Newcastle United in 2015, Sergio Aguero scored five goals in one game.
4. Andy Cole - 187 goals
Premier League teams played: Newcastle United, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Sunderland
Andy Cole should be remembered not only for his contribution to Manchester United's treble in 1999, but also for his impressive performances at Newcastle United under Kevin Keegan.
Andy Cole scored 34 goals for Newcastle United in his first Premier League season, a record he hasn't come close to since, but it did earn him a move to Old Trafford, where he scored in double figures in five seasons at Manchester United, including one each at Blackburn Rovers and Fulham.
3. Wayne Rooney - 208 goals

Wayne Rooney's stats during his time at Manchester United are really worth a look. He scored in double figures in the Premier League for 11 consecutive seasons and became United's all-time leading goalscorer. He also managed to score 10 league goals after returning to Everton. The Reds' all-time top scorer is a record that Wayne Rooney is proud of, and he has scored more goals for England until 2023.
Although Rooney's Premier League career began and ended at Everton, it was Manchester United that made his name as his goals helped Old Trafford win five Premier League titles. Wayne Rooney's best season was in 2011/12, when he scored 27 goals and ironically failed to win the title that year.
2. Harry Kane - 213 goals

Kane is the second-highest scorer in Premier League history and the second player on the list who has not retired (although he no longer plays in the Premier League), which shows just how consistent Kane's performances have been at Tottenham. Kane has scored in double figures in the Premier League in nine consecutive seasons, with the highest number of goals coming in 2017/18 and 2022/23, when he scored 30 goals each.
Kane could well become the Premier League's all-time top scorer if he returns to the Premier League after his adventure with Bayern Munich, but it will be very demanding to score another 50 goals in the Premier League. His goalscoring prowess doesn't seem to stop with age, which also allows him to maintain a competitive edge. If Kane doesn't decide to move abroad in the summer of 2023, he could well break the record held next by the next one with no injuries.
1. Alan Shearer - 260 goals
Premier League teams played: Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United
Alan Shearer may be better known as a commentator these days, but in the early days of the Premier League, he was the undisputed number one man when it came to goals. He leads the scorers chart with more than 50 goals, which is a testament to Alan Shearer's lethality as a finisher.
In three of Blackburn's four Premier League seasons, he scored more than 30 goals. At Newcastle United, he has maintained that amazing form as well, scoring more than 20 goals on four occasions. If it weren't for injury, Alan Shearer could well have become the first player to score 300 goals in the Premier League.
