I believe we have encountered a lot of such situations, usually just on the Internet to play games, watch movies, the software is not installed much, there are no large files, but the computer C disk is quickly full, with a variety of cleaning software to clear the memory is useless. Let's talk about the relevant settings for thoroughly cleaning up the C disk space.
1. Free up space on the C drive
Step 1: Open [This Computer] on the desktop of the computer, find [Local Disk C], right-click and select [Properties].
Step 2: After entering the [Properties] panel, enter the [General] interface, click [Disk Cleanup], then check the files you want to delete, and finally press [OK] to free up the C drive space.
2. Set up automatic file cleanup
Step 1: Press the shortcut key [Win+I] to trigger the settings panel, and enter [System] - [Storage] - [Configure Storage Sense or Run Now].
Step 2: Then turn on Storage Sense, set it to [Daily], check the temporary files below, set both options to [1 day], and then click [Clean Now], and then you can free up some space.
Note: The Win key is just to the left of the Alt key, and the Win key on some computers is a Windows icon.
3. Change the location where the content is saved
We usually download files and install software, and the system will default to the C drive, if you don't change the disk, the C drive is particularly easy to fill up. On the Storage Settings screen, find Change where new content is saved.
All options are saved as C disk, we modify them to D disk or other disks in turn, and after modification, you must click [Apply] to take effect, so that it will not occupy C disk space in the future.
4. Turn off automatic app updates
Every update of the system brings new content that takes up space, and if the computer hardware can't keep up, then the system will lag, so it's better to turn off automatic updates to free up more space.
Closing steps: Go to [This Computer], right-click [Manage], enter the [Computer Management] page, and select [Services and Applications].
5. Transfer the disk application
Open [Settings], select [Application], select [C drive] in [Filter Conditions], if there is third-party software, you can directly uninstall it here, reinstall it to other hard disks, and click [Custom Installation] when installing.
6. Close the startup item
This method is also only possible in the Win10 system, and at the same time press [Ctrl+Alt+Del], you can trigger the background task manager, click [Start] to see the boot startup items, set unnecessary programs to disabled, reduce the pressure on the computer, and the system will be smoother.
