It has been learned that the DPP authorities recently announced that from 2 April, the six islands under Kinmen will take turns to carry out live firing at the sea for more than half a month.
However, the Taiwan authorities simply responded, saying that the relevant operation was only a routine normal training and firing, and that there was no target; in fact, such a statement is not tenable at all; a similar live-fire exercise last year lasted only six days, and the Taiwan side intends to expand the scale of the exercise, and its purpose is obvious. The fact that the Taiwan authorities have announced that they will hold a long-term and high-intensity live-fire shooting at such a place and time is undoubtedly an arch fire and further intensify the contradictions between the two sides of the strait. First, the DPP's original scheduled time for firing live ammunition was on the same day as Biden's phone call with the highest level of the Chinese side.
Perhaps asking the Taiwan authorities to cancel the military operation in Kinmen is Biden's "goodwill" to China. However, in the face of these reasons, which are well known to the outside world, the Taiwan authorities do not dare to admit it out of the sake of face, and in the words of the "Kinmen Defense Command," when the foggy season is approaching, there are security problems at sea, so they will change the shooting of live ammunition at sea to shooting training at a land shooting range. However, a few days later, on the day of Ma Ying-jeou's arrival in Beijing, the Taiwan military announced the resumption of live firing and the location was changed to Dongyin Island, which is only 26 kilometers away from the mainland.
On the one hand, the Taiwan authorities have used provocative live ammunition to hedge against the positive impact of Ma Ying-jeou's visit to the mainland.
