We built a poverty alleviation demonstration village in Cambodia, and the results were so good, one of the villages has the economy from the bottom of the township in the past, to the fourth now.
Since the reform and opening up, China has helped 770 million rural poor people get out of poverty, which is unique in the world, and has become the first developing country to complete the poverty reduction goal of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Moreover, we are not satisfied with helping the poor in China lift themselves out of poverty, but also uphold the community with a shared future for mankind and help other countries to complete the poverty alleviation work, including Cambodia.
Cambodia has a population of about 17 million people, and its per capita GDP in 2020 is only 1,500 US dollars, which is recognized by the United Nations as a "least developed country in the world", with 17.8% of the country's population living on less than 2.73 US dollars, or 19.7 yuan, per day, Cambodia defines these people as poor.
In order to help Cambodia get rid of poverty, we have also brought our poverty alleviation experience to Cambodia and selected several villages as model villages.
There are a total of 125 households and 556 people in Dalong Village, with a per capita annual income of only 200 US dollars, which is converted into 1,446 yuan, which is very poor, but the experience of poverty alleviation in China tells us that simple and crude money cannot help alleviate poverty, but to transform the local living environment in an all-round way.
"If you want to get rich, you must first build roads", this trick has been tried and tested many times in China, and it is the same in Cambodia. Poverty alleviation personnel found that the roads in Dalong Village were not paved, and they were flooded when it rained, and the road conditions were also very poor.
At the beginning of the project, we built three concrete roads to connect the village with Highway 3, so that even during the rainy season, it would not affect the transportation needs of the villagers.
There is no running water in the village, in the past, it mainly relied on rainwater and well water, but the local water quality is not good, very salty, the villagers mainly rely on the water tank to collect rainwater, but the rainwater contains a lot of impurities, unhygienic, unclean, and it is easy to suffer from infectious diseases when drinking it regularly. Locals sometimes have to buy water from outside, and it is not cheap to buy water, 1 ton of water costs 4 dollars, which is very stressful.
After we came here, we changed a 60 meters * 80 meters reservoir for the village, and built a small water plant next to the reservoir, which can treat 22-30 cubic meters of water per day.
At the same time, the power problem is also a problem, Cambodia relies heavily on hydroelectric power, power generation and power supply facilities do not match, there is a situation of abandonment of electricity, and there is a shortage of electricity, in the past, the village of Da Nong often lost power. If you want to invest in a factory here, but there is a power outage at three ends in three days, is your factory still competitive?
After we came here, in addition to installing 68 pieces of solar equipment, we also connected the whole village to the national grid, solving the problem of electricity difficulties.
Local villagers also reported that the local water conservancy facilities are not perfect, and it is easy to be flooded in the rainy season.
In the past, in the rainy season, the crops were rotten to the ground and could not be transported, now foreign businessmen directly came to the village to buy, and some villagers also sold vegetables in Phnom Penh after wholesale in the local area, and their income increased a lot compared with the past.
At the same time, we are also carrying out skills training in the local area, and developing projects such as breeding and animal husbandry. In just three years, Dalong Village has been built into a local poverty alleviation demonstration village, and the village's ranking has risen from the bottom in the past to the top four in the township.
In addition to building roads, electricity and piped water, we also used Chinese wisdom to help them build industries.
For example, for villagers who have land and vacant land and are willing to raise cattle, we provide a cattle raising project, in order to prevent the cattle from being eaten by local villagers, we first distribute 20 cows to 20 households, and then give birth to the cows after 10 months, and then pass these calves to the other 20 households as a "gift", which is equivalent to the other 20 households supervising them and not letting them eat the cows.
The local climatic conditions are very good, suitable for the growth of mushrooms, Chinese experts came here to guide the local farmers to renovate the mushroom sheds, teach them how to grow mushrooms, and it didn't take long for 28 mushroom sheds to be built in 2 villages, each with an annual output value of 3,380 US dollars, realizing the increase in residents' income.
For landless farmers, experts offer a courtyard economy and teach them to grow vegetables in pots, so that these farmers don't have to spend money on vegetables, and even have endless vegetables to sell for money.
What's more, for landless farmers, we helped build a local poverty alleviation workshop to produce detergent, so that surplus labor can be employed at their doorstep.
In fact, there are many poor people in the world, and Western countries have also engaged in poverty alleviation, but their poverty alleviation is more like a show, more like political coercion, and they are all directly giving aid materials and food to underdeveloped countries, but as a result, they have suppressed local industry and agriculture. For example, Africa is prone to dengue fever and has a large demand for mosquito nets, and the local factory originally had to employ 15 people to produce 10,000 mosquito nets per month, but the West directly donated 50,000 mosquito nets, which directly bankrupted the factory, and 15 people lost their jobs and became more dependent on Western aid.
The same is true for grain, some African countries were still self-sufficient, but the West's aid of a large amount of cheap grain has hit the local agricultural market, farmers can not make money from farming, but lose money, and they are also abandoned, and the local fertilizer factories and pesticide factories have also closed down, and they have become more dependent on the West.
And China's poverty alleviation is really helping the local people get rid of dependence on the outside world, we are really doing practical things, because to help the poor people of a country, it is more difficult, more difficult, and it is not easy to see the effect by making a fortune with their own hands, Western countries are not willing to do it, only we are willing, and this is the significance of China's rise to the third world countries, because there is a country, after it has eliminated the poor people in the country, it stands up again, and is willing to help the world's underdeveloped countries to eliminate poverty, what are you waiting for, praise！
