There is an old man in Zhenxi Village, Wangdian Town, Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing, Zhejiang, who shows the breadth and profundity of Jiaxing's local traditional culture through root carving. He is Huang Fugen, the intangible cultural heritage craftsman of "Meiligan carving" in Wangdian Town, and the inheritor of the eighth batch of intangible cultural heritage in Xiuzhou District. Huang Fugen has liked root carving since he was a child. Huang Fugen, 66, is a farmer born and raised in Zhenxi Village, Wangdian Township.

In 2014, when Huang Fugen was 57 years old, when he visited the market, a root carving called "Taihang Aged Cliff Cypress" caught his eyes and entered his heart. So, Huang Fugen, who was over half a hundred years old, entrusted his business to his son and began to learn root carving techniques.

In 2016, the government began to discover Huang Fugen's root carving artworks, 59-year-old Huang Fugen completed his first root carving work "Pangolin", and at the age of 64, his work "Nanhu Red Boat" was selected for the Jiaxing Intangible Heritage 100 Red Theme Works Exhibition, exhibited in Tongxiang, Wenzhou and other places, and won the first award in his life Bronze Award.

In 2021, Huang Fugen ushered in a bumper harvest year for his own creations under the epidemic, and the four works of Taihang Aged Yabai, "Eagle", "Treasure Knife", "Torch" and "Magpie" were collected by the intangible cultural heritage of Xiuzhou District and included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of Xiuzhou District, and in 2022, the work "Fish Weng" won the third prize of the "Yixin Cup" National Handicraft Competition. and completed the first collection of his life. So far, Huang Fugen has produced more than 200 root carving works. He is a member of Zhejiang Jiaxing Arts and Crafts Association and a member of Xiuzhou District Collectors Association.
