The Reino de Chile, also known as Patria Vieja, is a period in Chilean history, between the First Military Government of Chile (September 18, 1810) and the Battle of Lankagua (October 1, 1814). During this period, Chile took measures against Napoleon's imprisonment of Ferdinand VII, which led to the formation of the Government of the Kingdom of Chile, which declared allegiance to Ferdinand VII.

The Capitanía General de Chile (Spanish: Capitanía General de Chile), also known as the Spanish Reconquest, or Reconquest, is a period of Chilean history that spans from the victory of the Spanish Royalists at the Battle of Lancagua in 1814 to the victory of the Andean Army (patriots) at the Battle of Chacabco in 1817. During this period, supporters of the Spanish Empire resumed their rule in Chile. During this period, the patriotic faction disseminated independent ideas to the people mainly through the guerrilla warfare of Manuel Rudguz. Writers such as Julio Hayes and Jaime Nzagiel of Chile liked to call this period an absolutist Restoration, considering that only the royalists were in power.
