Zhou Xiaozhai (1899~1989), a professor at Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was a well-known master of traditional Chinese medicine in mainland China. Zhou Lao mainly focused on internal medicine and gynecology all his life, and his medical skills were extremely clever, especially the diseases diagnosed were mainly plague and other major diseases, and he had encountered epidemics many times in his life, he actively treated them, accumulated rich experience, formed a unique treatment method, saved countless patients, and had a high reputation in the folk and Chinese medicine circles. After middle and late life, he carried out research on a variety of chronic and refractory diseases, and achieved very significant clinical efficacy.
However, the growth of such a master of Chinese medicine is full of hardships and legends. Zhou Xiaozhai was born in a family of traditional Chinese medicine, his grandfather Zhou Jing'an and his father were both famous local doctors, good at internal medicine and surgery, and opened a Chinese medicine shop and clinic, which is very famous in the local area.
Zhou Xiaozhai has been exposed to it since he was a child, and he has been determined to inherit his family education and benefit the world since he was a child. At the age of 6, he entered a private school, where he studied literature and medicine part-time. However, the sky is unpredictable. When he was 13 years old, his grandparents and father died one after another, and the Zhou family plummeted, the family became increasingly depressed, and the clinic and Chinese medicine shop were closed because they were unemployed. And his mother, unable to bear it, ran away from home and abandoned him. People are underage, they have not succeeded, their families have changed, their relatives have abandoned them, and Zhou Xiaozhai has gone from heaven to hell at once.
Fortunately, Zhou Xiaozhai did not give up, at this time he had already understood a lot of truths and knew that he must not give up. Under the introduction of his aunt, he went to his cousin's medicine number to work and study.
Life is in the end, and there is no way back. Zhou Xiaozhai is determined to get rid of the sea of suffering, revive the family business, and regain glory. He worked in the medicine department during the day, studied medical books hard at night, and did not sleep until late at night every day. After years of hard work, in 1921, 23-year-old Zhou Xiaozhai finally obtained the legal qualification of traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. From 1924, Zhou Xiaozhai began to practice medicine independently. Because of his excellent medical skills and good thinking, he quickly became famous in the local area.
During his 26 years of medical practice in Matang, there were many major epidemics in the area, such as plague dysentery in 1928, epidemic malaria in 1936, dengue fever in 1939, and cholera in 1946. In the face of these major diseases, Zhou Xiaozhai made every effort to treat them and achieved great success. The mortality rate of the patients he treats is extremely low. For example, in the 1948 measles and smallpox, Zhou Xiaozhai treated hundreds of patients who were cured, and only one could not be saved because he missed the opportunity for treatment. This was regarded as a miracle under the medical conditions of the time.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Zhou Xiaozhai obtained the certificate of traditional Chinese medicine with excellent results, becoming the first group of people in the country to obtain the qualification certificate. In 1954, Zhou Xiaozhai entered Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine to work, and at the same time carried out clinical work, he not only treated a large number of patients, but also cultivated a large number of high-end talents of traditional Chinese medicine.
Zhou Xiaozhai successively served as the head of many teaching and research groups such as medical history, prescription medicine, and various theories of Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, wrote the first lecture notes on the history of Chinese medicine, and compiled the first unified textbook "Lecture Notes on Formulary" of the National College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, making important contributions to the clinical and educational cause of Chinese medicine.
Professor Zhou Xiaozhai has presided over the compilation of textbooks such as "History of the Development of Medicine in the Motherland", "Lecture Notes on Prescriptions", "Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine" and other textbooks, which have an important position in the field of traditional Chinese medicine.
