The "black technology" in the library allows the visually impaired to read more and more "freely"

On March 26, the weather gradually warmed up. Xin Hongfei, a visually impaired reader, took advantage of the good spring to go to the Mianyang City Library to return the smart audiobook machine that had been borrowed for three months. "It's really good, and I can also achieve the freedom of 'reading'. Xin Hongfei said with a grin.

The smart audiobook machine mentioned by Xin Hongfei is actually one of the reading aids specially equipped by the city library in the Braille reading room since last year. What is its "intelligence"?"Internal medicine massage, basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine meridians and acupoints......" In the 70-square-meter braille reading room, visually impaired reader Guo Mengyi gently pressed under Xin Hongfei's introduction, and this smart audiobook machine shaped like a "button mobile phone" broadcast the book resources of the Chinese Braille Digital Library one after another.

Not only are there the latest editions of teaching book resources, but there are also real voices that can adjust the speed of speech. Guo Mengyi couldn't put it down with this smart audiobook, and looked forward to taking it home to use it as soon as possible.

The reporter learned that in order to improve the quality of cultural services for special groups, the city library has specially built a braille reading room with a rich collection of books and diverse equipment, equipped with 1,562 volumes, 826 kinds of braille books and a variety of reading aids, including smart listening machines that provide free lending services, one-button readers, visual aids, touch maps, screen-readable computers, etc., as well as electronic resources suitable for visually impaired readers such as Xinyu Listening Books and Himalayas.

"In addition to smart audiobooks, there are also one-touch readers and visual aids. Li Chunlan, director of the reader department of the Municipal Library, pointed to the two instruments on the long table at the door of the braille reading room, "Put the book into the machine to scan, and the one-touch reader can smoothly play the content of the book; ”

Following the direction pointed by Li Chunlan, Yao Yu, a visually impaired reader, was twisting the knob of the visual aid to the right with the help of the staff of the municipal library, enlarging the text of the book "Sense and Sensibility". "In the past, I used to come with a magnifying glass to read books, but with this visual aid, it is much more convenient, and it is very easy to turn the pages, which is very friendly to us people with low vision. Yao Yu told reporters while operating.

As an important public cultural service position in Mianyang City, in recent years, the Municipal Library has also carried out a series of service activities for visually impaired readers, such as special children entering the library, sending listening machines and Braille books to their homes, one-on-one reading literacy training, and audio movie appreciation. "In the future, we also plan to recruit visually impaired readers as volunteers to provide services that are more suitable for the needs of visually impaired readers, and to meet the reading needs of the dyslexic community in as many aspects as possible. Li Chunlan said.
