Global engineering frontiers

Engineering science and technology is an important force to change the world, and the frontier of engineering represents an important direction for the future innovation and development of engineering science and technology. In today's era, the changes of the world, the times, and history are unfolding in an unprecedented way, and a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation continues to evolve in depth, and human society is facing unprecedented challenges. It has become the common choice of all countries to grasp the development trend of science and technology in the world in a forward-looking manner, accurately recognize changes, respond scientifically, and actively seek changes.

As the highest honorary and consultative academic institution in the field of engineering science and technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering shoulders the historical mission of playing a leading role in academia and promoting the development of engineering science and technology. In order to study and judge the frontier development trend of engineering science and technology and keenly grasp the new direction of scientific and technological revolution, since 2017, the Chinese Academy of Engineering has relied on 9 academic departments and the "Engineering" series of journals of the Chinese Academy of Engineering to jointly carry out global engineering frontier research projects, and has researched and released nearly 100 global engineering research frontiers and engineering development frontiers every year, in order to play an academic leading role and actively guide the innovation and development of engineering science and technology and industry.

Frontier research is a complex and challenging task. In the research process, the project research team focuses on the hot and difficult issues of the development of global engineering science and technology, closely combines cutting-edge research, academic forums and journal construction, promotes each other, and gradually explores a unique research path, and uses the development roadmap tool in the process of interpretation of key frontiers to judge the development direction and trend of key engineering frontiers in the next 5~10 years. Thousands of academicians and experts from various fields and institutions in the mainland engineering science and technology community have supported the research of frontier engineering, and I would like to express my gratitude to all the academicians who guide the frontier research of engineering and all the experts who have participated in the frontier research of engineering.
