Brandon Gurney, research analyst at Canalys, said: "Beyond the top three, the vendor landscape has changed dramatically in 2023. Strong gains from a few vendors offset the decline in the overall market. In 2023, Motorola is the strongest growing manufacturer. It is focused on targeted acquisition of MNOs slots across the region to achieve continued growth throughout the year. Honor followed Motorola and entered the top five in the European market for the first time in the fourth quarter. This is a key milestone in its journey towards an initial public offering (IPO) to prove the market's potential. ”

Gurney added: "Competition has been fierce over the past few years, but it will intensify further in 2024. OPPO, vivo and realme aim to regain market share after resolving a patent dispute with Nokia. HMD will strive to improve its market position through the recently launched private label brand, especially targeting European consumers and channel partners. In addition, the expanding brand footprints of Nothing and Transsion will further drive increased competition, offering a wide range of high-quality products for consumers to choose from in the coming years. ”
