However, the quality of the chassis is often not dominated by hardware or structure, and for car companies, the real difficulty of the chassis is tuning. It is entirely possible that a model with a multi-link will not be as comfortable to drive as a model with a torsion beam.

Among China's own brand cars, BYD, Great Wall, Geely, Chery and other brands have invested a lot of resources in chassis research. So, among these four car companies, whose chassis is better?

BYD

BYD's current new energy vehicles are indeed selling well, but in the chassis, BYD has been criticized.

In the early days, BYD, like Great Wall and Geely, was reverse developed from Japanese cars in terms of chassis, and the early BYD Song chassis was reversely developed from Toyota RAV4.

BYD actually knew about the chassis problems very early, so it spent a lot of money to hire the front chassis tuning team of Mercedes-Benz to optimize and improve the chassis performance, so the current BYD car has a great improvement in chassis comfort compared with before.

Tuning is important, but sometimes platforming is indispensable.

BYD pure electric car now has an e platform 3.0, in terms of electrification technology is indeed the most advanced among several car companies, the chassis tuning of pure electric vehicles is actually passable, and then Formula Leopard has a DM-O platform, and there is also a new choice in the chassis suspension.

However, the chassis of the DM-i series models is more embarrassing, limited by the hybrid structure of the vehicle, the chassis structure is not easy to change, if it is to change, it will take a lot of time to develop and verify, so even if BYD has long been criticized by consumers for not giving the suspension force, but for so many years its hybrid models still use "chopsticks suspension" in the suspension combination.

Of course, BYD has not thought of a way, last year BYD Han DM-i Champion Edition optimized its rear suspension, using a lot of aluminum alloy structural parts.

In addition, BYD has also begun to use the technology of FSD variable damping suspension, trying to improve the texture of the chassis through FSD. Frankly, useful, but not particularly big. BYD's DM-i model has to rely on the platform if it wants to improve the driving quality, and it depends on when BYD can launch a hybrid platform.

Great Wall Motors

The chassis of many previous models of Great Wall Motors was actually developed in reverse of the CRV chassis, and the most typical model was the old Haval H6.

At the time of reverse development, the Great Wall also added a lot of its own thinking, such as making the fuel tank rear, strengthening the coherence of the longitudinal beam, after some improvements, Haval H6 is quite good in terms of comfort, which also makes Haval H6 This car become a national god car, won 108 months of SUV sales crown, this record still sounds ridiculously strong now, but unfortunately Haval H6 is average in terms of handling.

After a few years of reverse development, Great Wall also released a car-making platform in 2020, and it launched 3 in one shot, namely the lemon platform, the tank platform and the coffee platform.

The lemon platform is relatively comprehensive, and at present, except for the models of the Wei brand and the tank brand, other models of Great Wall Motors are produced by the coffee platform.

The current chassis structure of the Haval H6 produced by the lemon platform is neat, and the strength, rigidity and durability have been well improved, and the adjustment is stable in handling, and the driving feeling is calm, which is the style that most Haval H6 target groups like.

The tank platform is a longitudinal platform mainly developed for hard-core off-road models, and the tank series are produced by this platform, and the models derived from this platform will adopt a non-load-bearing body structure, which is commonly known as a "girder". The biggest highlight of the models currently produced by the platform is the thick use of materials, and the use of a large amount of steel also makes the chassis strong and durable, but the comfort is poorer.

The coffee intelligent platform mainly produces intelligent models, and the chassis capacity of the models produced by the coffee platform is relatively balanced, and the highlights of intelligent technology are relatively large, and the wire-controlled chassis has been used very early.

In general, the current chassis characteristics of Great Wall Motors mainly lie in comfort, durability and passability, and in terms of excellent handling, Great Wall Motors does not have them.

Geely Automobile

Geely's chassis technology started late, and Geely's early popular model Boyue, the chassis was also developed in reverse of Toyota RAV4.

As mentioned earlier, the Haval H6 chassis is based on the reverse development of CRV, at that time, the CRV was much higher than the Toyota RAV4 in terms of chassis layout and market reputation, in this situation, even if Geely optimized the chassis of Boyue at that time, but still could not sell Haval H6.

Geely's chassis changes began with the acquisition of Volvo, and through the cooperation with Volvo, Geely has made significant changes in chassis technology, and many vehicles have found a good balance between handling and comfort.

Later, Geely and Volvo jointly developed the CMA architecture, and many of Volvo's safety concepts and technologies were reflected in the CMA, and Geely's chassis reputation has since reversed.

In the new energy period, Geely launched the SEA vast architecture, whether it is Geely's new energy brand or cooperative brand, basically from the vast architecture. Because Geely already has quite a lot of experience in chassis tuning in the CMA architecture, so in the future, no one will say that the chassis is poor for any model born in the vast architecture.

Taking ZEEKR 001 as an example, its bottom layout is quite reasonable, and the large parts of the front and rear suspension are made of aluminum alloy, because it is willing to spend money and does a good job in lightweight. Even the H-shaped control arm of the rear suspension of ZEEKR 001 adopts an integrated casting hollow process, which further reduces the unsprung mass. In the case of solid materials, reasonable design, and correct tuning, the chassis texture of ZEEKR 001 is indeed difficult to say.

Chery Automobile

Yin Tongyue, the founder of Chery, was the director of the workshop of FAW-Volkswagen, so in the entrepreneurial stage, the chassis of Chery Fengyun was similar to the old Volkswagen Jetta, and even the next few models were also a set of chassis that were used, without many changes.

However, Chery soon began independent research and development, and even the earliest car company among independent car companies to independently develop the three major parts of automobiles. Chery's steering wheel and gearbox are not much to say, after all, Chery's reputation in these two areas is indeed not black.

More than ten years ago, Chery and Magna created the M1X platform together, and are developing the A3 car, and the Arrizo 7 and Arrizo 5 are also built on this platform. It is understood that the chassis structure of Chery A3 is close to the Volkswagen PQ35 platform, and in terms of driving texture, it is very similar to Suteng.

In 2014, Chery launched the T1X platform, which is a chassis platform developed by Chery in the forward direction, which took three years to build, and is said to have absorbed a lot of Jaguar Land Rover and Qoros technology.

The E0X platform is more interesting, the platform is Chery's pure electric high-end platform, equivalent to Geely's vast platform, this platform is characterized by a lightweight steel and aluminum body, but also with an adaptive air suspension solution, the integration of an integrated die-cast body and cast aluminum chassis, while achieving a lightweight body, but also improve driving stability and handling performance. The most famous model of this platform is the Zhijie S7.
