When Wu Bin saw Wang Lizhen for the first time, her slightly youthful but energetic appearance caught his attention. When they chatted for an afternoon and the sky began to slowly darken, Wu Bin was already attracted by Wang Lizhen's character and conversation in his heart. Since then, although the age difference is five years, the two have been coming and going more frequently. After nearly two years of getting along, 27-year-old Wu Bin was gradually deeply moved by Wang Lizhen and fell in love with her. He later learned that Wang Lizhen also had a good impression of him. So on May 15, 1994, with the support of both parents, they officially became husband and wife.
After getting married, with the support of relatives and friends, Wu Bin and Wang Lizhen bought a new residential property in Gongshu District, Hangzhou. He then drove to the Hangzhou North Bus Station to report for duty, and began to carry out daily routine inspections to ensure that the vehicles were operating in accordance with safety standards. After the inspection, he waited quietly for the passengers to get on the bus and start the day.
It was nearly 7:10 a.m. Wu Bin drove the bus numbered Zhejiang A19115 and then left the North Railway Station on time according to the timetable to start the first trip to Wuxi today. He straightened the steering wheel and drove the car onto the clear highway. With a nervous and responsible attitude, he began another day of work to provide transportation services for a large number of passengers.
But it was this trip that made his life forever fixed at the age of 47.
Misfortune is coming
After Wu Bin drove the bus smoothly from Wuxi Station to transport passengers, it drove to Hangzhou at about 11:40 p.m. At that time, the traffic flow on the highway was large, and Wu Bin controlled the speed of the vehicle according to the routine and drove steadily at about 90 kilometers per hour.
At this moment, a piece of iron suddenly flew in front of the car and rushed straight to the front of the car. It smashed the windshield at breakneck speed and crashed straight into Wu Bin's driver's seat, hitting him in the abdomen while his right arm was also hit.
In addition to being shocked, Wu Bin relied on his rich driving experience to quickly control the steering wheel, and the speed of the car decreased smoothly without changing his face. He took into account that there were dozens of passengers in the same car, and he could not let the vehicle lose control and cause secondary casualties.
When the blood flowed out seriously affected his vision, Wu Bin still tried his best to stop smoothly on the shoulder of the road. Immediately after that, he opened the car door, and despite the unbearable pain, he still gave instructions for the evacuation of passengers, waiting for the timely arrival of the rescue department.
After Wu Bin was taken to the hospital, the ambulance personnel immediately carried out emergency treatment. After examination, doctors found that he had suffered severe damage to his liver and several ribs.
After the news was reported by the media, Wuxi citizens expressed their willingness to donate blood for Wu Bin. The disparity in the number of donations is deeply admired by medical staff. But no matter how hard the hospital tried to rush it, Wu Bin's injuries were irreversible. He unfortunately passed away in the early morning of June 1.
On June 4, 2012, Wu Bin received the highest honor for his heroic deeds. The All-China Federation of Trade Unions posthumously awarded him the "National May Day Labor Medal" in recognition of his noble professionalism in protecting passengers with his life. At the same time, the Zhejiang Provincial Government also officially recognized Wu Bin as a revolutionary martyr.
On the morning of June 5, the Hangzhou funeral home held a final farewell ceremony for Wu Bin. At this time, Yueyue, who was still an ignorant daughter, endured her grief and attended with her mother. Nearly 3,000 citizens spontaneously came to see him off and thank this ordinary citizen for his final destination. The mayor at the time delivered a speech in person, once again praising Wu Bin's exemplary deeds of "interpreting responsibility with life in 1 minute and 16 seconds".
The solemn scenes deeply touched every guest. More netizens left a message "Wu Bin is the most beautiful driver and the most beautiful Hangzhou person". He transcribed the responsibilities of the employees of the bus industry through his actions, which will be immortalized.
Immediately after June 27, Wu Bin's ashes were placed in the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery of Nanshan Cemetery according to his last wishes. More than 30 relatives and friends came to say goodbye again.
After the incident, the Wuxi police immediately launched an investigation to find out the truth. After a closer inspection of the vehicle that caused the accident, the police found that the surface of the iron sheet that broke the glass was smooth and there were obvious brake wear marks on the back. It was identified as a fragment of a truck's brake disc.
The police then launched an investigation and soon found the vehicle that caused the accident in Yichun City, Jiangxi Province. Further investigation learned that the car had replaced the damaged brake disc on May 29. And between May 29 and June 1, its driving route and time matched the case.
Based on various evidence, the police confirmed that the truck was the "initiator" of the incident. However, due to the sudden damage and fall off of the brake disc during the drive, it cannot be confirmed that it directly caused the flying iron piece to hit the car driven by Wu Bin, and it is difficult to determine the fault of the driver.
In the end, the Wuxi Municipal Public Security Bureau concluded that this tragic incident was an "accident".
After Wu Bin paid a precious price for the human spirit, people will remember him forever. To this end, the Hangzhou Municipal Transportation Management Bureau decided to designate May 29 as "Wu Bin Day" every year to commemorate his deeds of fearless sacrifice.
Since then, on this day, various transportation companies will hold commemorative activities to commemorate Wu Bin's heroic deeds. He showed through practical actions the duty of a good driver, and lived up to the safety of passengers at the last moment of his life.
