Imperial Army
As the Great Expedition progresses, the Empire needs more soldiers to liberate more worlds. Not even the vast army of the Space Marine Legion is not capable of accomplishing the looming task alone.
Massive mortal auxiliary legions
As a result, the Empire issued decrees requiring each liberated world to provide armed men to support the conduct of the war. Every world was assessed and a census was conducted. The Emperor's administrators calculated the tithes that each world needed to pay with legions and war materials.
Paying people is also considered to be paying taxes
The number of legions formed from different worlds varies greatly. In a sparsely populated world, annual tithes only need to provide a handful of regiments. And those crowded hive worlds near the galactic core will provide hundreds of regiments every year. These soldiers formed a large group that gradually became known as the Imperial Army.
Army Commissar
These contract forces of the Imperial Army were absorbed into the command system of the Space Marine Corps, and were under the direct command of the Space Marines. Space Marine transports will arrive in each world, transporting the Imperial Army Corps formed there to fight across the galaxy to distant battlefields.
The Imperial Army is embarking ships
The sheer size of the Imperial Army, the capricious nature of subspace navigation, and the sheer number of liberated worlds thwarted all attempts to standardize the Imperial Army. There is a huge disparity between the different corps in terms of war equipment, drills, and discipline. Every taxpaying world does their best to provide their best troops. Fighters from the industrially developed world were armed with sturdy body armor and newly created laser guns according to standard specifications. Fighters from backward worlds, as long as they have a pair of boots and a gun, they are already thankful.
Very well equipped
It's nice to have a gun
Some of the world's units were well trained and organized into squads, companies and corps. But other worlds provide nothing more than lax thugs and gangs. Despite this, the soldiers of the Imperial Army proved their worth in hundreds of battles and thousands of battlefields.

Gangsters + gangsters also came to join the army
Although not as powerful as the Space Marines under the command of the Proto, the Imperial Army Corps is still an important addition to the Expeditionary Force's combat strength. A Space Marine legion can sometimes have hundreds of Imperial Army auxiliaries fighting under its command. These units are often used to support Space Marines, and are frequently used in siege battles or large-scale invasions, as well as to garrison newly conquered planets. Imperial Army Corps are rarely deployed in the home system in which they were formed. In fact, this is what the Primitives are trying to avoid, precisely to ensure that the soldiers will be loyal to them.
