What is Disulfiram Reaction?
On the evening of February 4, the reporter consulted Li Li, deputy director of the West Pharmacy of Zhejiang Hospital.
Dr. Li said that the commonly known cephalosporin encounters alcohol is medically referred to as a "disulfiram-like reaction". Disulfiram itself is a kind of alcohol withdrawal drug, and when disulfiram is used in combination with ethanol, it can inhibit the acetaldehyde dehydrogenase in the liver, so that after ethanol is oxidized to acetaldehyde in the body, it can no longer continue to decompose and oxidize, resulting in the accumulation of acetaldehyde in the body and a series of reactions.
According to Physician Li, cephalosporin antibiotics are the drugs with the highest incidence of disulfiram-like reactions in clinical practice, accounting for nearly 90% of all drugs, and the common ones are cefoperazone, ceftriaxone, cefazolin, and cefminol, "among which cefoperazone and cefoperazone sulbactam are the most sensitive."
Many drugs have similar effects to disulfiram, and if you drink alcohol after taking the drug, you will experience facial flushing, conjunctival hyperemia, blurred vision, violent throbbing of blood vessels in the head and neck or pulsatile headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, sweating, dry mouth, chest pain, myocardial infarction, acute heart failure, dyspnea, acute liver injury, convulsions and death.
