"Sir, what are we fighting for?"
In 1949, a Kuomintang air force pilot, looking at the burning villages in the war and the innocent people hiding everywhere, crying and grabbing the ground, his heart was full of doubts and pain, and he couldn't help but question his leadership.
The chief just looked at him in silence and did not give a final answer.
These experiences of cannibalism with his compatriots, like sharp swords, constantly stimulated the pilot's heart, making him sleepless at night and constantly introspecting.
In the end, he made a decision to defect to the Communist Party and fight to protect the country and the people.
With this idea in mind, the pilot began to plan how to escape, and by chance, he left the Kuomintang position in a Kuomintang plane and flew to a bright future.
So, who was he, and was his uprising a success?
The pilot's name is Yang Baoqing, born in August 1923, his ancestral home is Quyang County, Hebei Province.
When he was 14 years old, the Lugou Bridge Incident broke out again, and he fled with his family to Xichuan, Henan.
Along the way, Yang Baoqing witnessed the ruthlessness of the war, the misery of the people, and his heart was full of hatred for the Japanese army, and he made an oath at a young age: "Protect the family and defend the country." ”
Although life is embarrassing, Yang Baoqing has never given up studying and has been looking for opportunities to join the army.
At the end of 1942, Yang Baoqing heard the news of the enrollment of the National Air Force Officer School, and he was very happy.
Later, after his own efforts, he was successfully admitted to the Air Force Military Academy and became an Air Force.
During his time in school, Yang Baoqing trained hard and achieved excellent results in all subjects, which was appreciated by the school leaders.
At that time, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were in the stage of cooperation, and the mainland's flight strength and combat level at that time were still relatively backward.
The state selected a number of outstanding air forces to go to the United States for further study, and Yang Baoqing was among them.
With outstanding skills and natural acumen, Yang Baoqing became the "ace pilot" of the third team of the Sino-US mixed regiment, and participated in counterattack operations against Japan, and made many meritorious achievements.
It was not until September 2, 1945 that Japan officially signed the instrument of surrender, and at this time, Yang Baoqing, who had been separated from his family for many years, had plans to retire from the army.
However, before Yang Baoqing could return to his hometown, the Kuomintang tore up the "Kuomintang-Communist Cooperation Agreement" and brazenly launched a civil war.
The smoke of gunfire rose again, and the soldiers wept blood, this time the guns were aimed at their compatriots.
Where should Yang Baoqing go?
At that time, whoever held the "air supremacy" had the weapon to win.
Therefore, the Kuomintang attached great importance to this air force unit and ensured adequate supplies in all aspects.
However, as the war situation has changed, many people's positions have become less firm.
In order to prevent the pilots from revolting, the Kuomintang secretly sent all the pilots' families to Taiwan.
After his family was sent to Taiwan, Yang Baoqing was very worried, especially when he heard the news of his family's illness, and he and his superiors applied to visit him many times, but they were refused.
This time, Yang Baoqing was even more disheartened, and his dissatisfaction with the Kuomintang authorities became more and more intense.
On February 18, 1949, during the transportation of materials from Nanjing to Taipei, Yang Baoqing met his brother-in-law, Zhao Lianjing, who was also a pilot.
The two reunited after a long absence, and Yang Baoqing couldn't help but pour out his disappointment and dissatisfaction with the Kuomintang authorities in his heart, and frankly admitted that he was eager to abandon the darkness and turn to the light.
To his surprise, his brother-in-law Zhao Lianjing not only expressed his deep understanding, but also offered to take care of his relatives at home, so that Yang Baoqing had no worries.
Everything was ready, and Yang Baoqing began to look for a suitable plane for the uprising. He knew that once he took off, there was no turning back, and all supplies and support could only be relied on himself.
In the early morning of February 19, 1949, with the assistance of his brother-in-law Zhao Lianjing, Yang Baoqing successfully found a C46 transport plane that was about to fly to Taiwan.
The plane was loaded with 4.6 tons of silver dollars, and Yang Baoqing chose this plane precisely to give these silver dollars to the Communist Party as a "meeting gift" to express his determination to abandon the dark and turn to the light.
He quietly started the plane, left the Kuomintang airport, and flew firmly to the destination in his heart.
At this moment, he is no longer an ordinary pilot, but has become a heroic and fearless rebel, soaring in the dawn without hesitation for his ideals and beliefs.
According to the plan, Yang Baoqing would land at Beiping Airport, so after the plane took off, Yang Baoqing immediately adjusted its course and flew to Beiping.
In order to avoid being discovered by the Kuomintang, Yang Baoqing turned off the detection system, and flew low in the dark night, and when the sky was bright, Yang Baoqing found that he had deviated.
At this time, he was in the middle of a lofty mountain, and what made him even more anxious was that the alarm of the fuel tank also lit up at this time.
As a matter of urgency, he had to find a flat place to make an emergency landing, and he flew for a while, and when he saw that the fuel tank was at the bottom, he found a relatively flat riverbank.
Yang Baoqing didn't care about anything else, his heart was horizontal, and he began to hover in the sky.
After adjusting the attitude of the plane, he landed without hesitation.
Luckily, everything went exceptionally well, and the plane landed smoothly on the river beach, with only minor injuries.
Yang Baoqing didn't know that the place where he landed was Tangshan.
At that time, Tangshan had been liberated, and the local people gathered around after discovering that the plane had landed.
Soon, the PLA troops stationed in Tangshan also quickly arrived at the scene.
Facing everyone, Yang Baoqing truthfully explained the situation.
Subsequently, he was sent to Beiping, where he was cordially received by leaders at all levels.
When the leaders asked him if the 4.6 tons of silver dollars on the plane belonged to him, he said without hesitation: "These are the property of the people, and I will return them all to the people." ”
After a few days of rest, the superiors made proper arrangements for Yang Baoqing and asked him to report his safety to his family.
Yang Baoqing's deeds were also recited in his hometown for a while, and he became a hero in people's hearts.
After receiving his wife's response, the stone in Yang Baoqing's heart finally landed.
He understands that family reunion is not easy to come by, and there is the party's firm support and selfless dedication behind it.
Under the party's careful arrangement, using the transport planes of the national army to and from Taiwan, Yang Baoqing's family finally arrived safely in Qingdao after several twists and turns.
This is not only a transfer of space, but also a shift from fear to hope.
Subsequently, the superiors sent a special person to take the Yang family to Beiping, and the long-lost relatives were finally reunited.
That excitement and emotion have become the eternal warmth in their hearts.
In March, the superior issued an order approving Yang Baoqing and his wife to join the PLA Air Force.
For the couple, this is a new beginning and a home full of glory.
In June 1949, Yang Baoqing was ordered to go to the Qiqihar Air Force Aviation School as a flight instructor, while his wife Liu Yupu stayed in the North China Aviation Bureau as an accountant.
Although they are in different positions, they jointly contribute to the cause of the blue sky of the motherland.
Write at the end

In November 1951, Yang Baoqing shouldered the heavy responsibility of the country and moved to Mudanjiang to become the mentor of the first batch of female pilots in New China.
He is well aware that every student carries the expectations of the country and the future of the nation.
Although facing female students, Yang Baoqing never had the slightest contempt, but doubled his respect and taught her.
Under the careful guidance of Yang Baoqing, China's first female pilots soared in the blue sky, and Yang Baoqing has also become a role model and role model in their hearts.
In 1985, Yang Baoqing's career came to a perfect end. However, he did not choose to enjoy his old age in peace, but remained concerned about the country after retirement, serving as a member of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
With full enthusiasm and firm conviction, he continued to forge ahead on the road of serving the people.
