Bao Xuezhai reinterprets "Elephant": "The Gentleman Carries Something with Virtue"

author:Hug Xue Zhai reads easy notes

For the hexagram in "Zhou Yi", "Elephant" is interpreted as follows:

"The gentleman carries things with virtue"

We still interpret "Elephant" according to the old way, divided into four parts: hexagram painting, hexagram image, hexagram name and time training.

1. 卦画䷁

On the Lianshan Yi hexagram gas map, it is also one of the twelve hexagrams, and it is the hexagram of October of the summer calendar.

Twelve diagrams

4,500 years ago, the tenth month of the summer calendar was the month of Mengdong's Jianhai. At dusk, Beidou's Doujian points to the northwest of Hai, which is the time of the year when the yin qi is at its peak, and the "Shuowen" says:

Hai, 荄也. In October, the slight sun rises, and the yin is in full bloom.

It can also be seen from the hexagram painting of the six pure yin that the hexagram corresponds to the time of the year when the yin energy is at its peak.

4,500 years ago, in the tenth month of Mengdong, the East Palace Qinglong Fang was hidden underground, and it was not seen until the early hours of the morning in the east.

Meng Dong's October is the time recorded in the "Zuo Biography" when "the frost fell when I saw it". Fangsu is also known as Tiansi, the frost season appears in the east in the early morning, so it is said that "the frost is seen and frost", the "horse" in the hexagram of "Zhou Yi" is specifically referring to the Tianma that comes with the frost, and the "frost" in the epigram also refers to the phenology that comes with the celestial phenomenon of Tiansi.

2. Hexagrams

The hexagram of ䷁ is "earth".

It is composed of two ☷ hexagrams, the upper and lower hexagrams. ☷ Symbolizes the ground. Wherever this hexagram appears ☷, "Elephant" without exception calls it "earth".

So, what is "埶"?

This "terrain" is written as "terrain" in the current popular popular books, but in fact, a group of fools since the Han Dynasty misunderstood "埶" as "potential".

There is no word "potential" in ancient texts, and it is replaced by "埶". Duan Yuci's "Commentary on the Text" said:

There is no word "potential" in "Shuowen", and Gaigu uses "埶" for it, such as "Liyun" "Those who are in 埶 go" are also. "Poem" says: "I am millet grass".

I used to think that "埶" was a forgery of the word "teaching", but now I find that there is no need to turn this corner at all, because the word "埶" itself has the meaning of teaching!

Why do you say that? Because the ancient character "埶" can be read as "set" in most cases!

In 2002, Qiu Xigui published an article entitled "The "埶" Pronounced as "Set" in Ancient Documents and Its Mutual Falsification with "Execution", pointing out that there are many ancient books and unearthed silk documents from the Han Dynasty that have been handed down and there are many characters for "埶" that should be read as "set".

The most obvious example is the "elephant" in the thirty-fifth chapter of this "Lao Tzu", which is written as "elephant" in the Warring States Chu Jian. Qiu Xigui accurately pointed out that the word "埶" here should be read as "set".

If we use "earth design" to understand the word "earth design", we can see that it and the "heaven travel" of the "Jian (Qian)" hexagram form a pair of heaven and earth design!

For example, when interpreting the hexagram of "Guan", "Yi" says "Shinto teaching", and "Elephant" also says "Guanmin teaching", which shows that the content of "earth" is "teaching", and "Tao" and "teaching" are a pair of concepts with equal status.

The way of heaven, the teaching of the earth.

What is done in heaven is done by the earth.

Coincidentally, the meaning of design is facilities and furnishings!

set, Shi Chen also. - "Sayings"

Teach, effect, give up, and do what you do. - "Sayings"

The ancient sages looked up at the celestial phenomena and "set up hexagrams to observe the elephants", which is the "elephant" that Lao Tzu said!

Therefore, the word "earth" in "Elephant" should be understood as "the furnishing of the terrain", as opposed to "Tianxing". Coincidentally, the word "埶" itself is derived from "坴". Xu Kai said: "Cun, soil also", the ☷ hexagram is the land!

III. 卦名《巛》

In "Elephant", the hexagram name of the gang is "巛", but in the popular version it is written "kun".

A large number of facts have proved that before the Han Dynasty, almost all versions of "Zhou Yi" wrote the hexagram name of the city as "巛".

Even Wang Bi, who has made a note on "Elephant", sees that the name of the hexagram is not "Kun" but "巛". Because "巛" is the original word for "shun", Wang Bi will say that "the terrain is not smooth, and its momentum is smooth".

The glyph of "巛" is very similar to that of the hexagram, especially in the Yi of "Gui Zang", the yin is written in the shape of "^", and the ☷ hexagram is ☷ a "巛" character that rotates 90 degrees.

Such a way of writing has appeared in the Shang Dynasty.

Shang Dynasty ☷ Hexagram

Until the Warring States period, the hexagram was still written in the ☷ shape of a zigzag.

Warring States Tsinghua Hexagram ☷

The hexagram name "巛" means Shun, which happens to be the opposite of the hexagram name "Jian".

The "Hexagram" says: "Qian ☰, Jian, Kun ☷, Shun", which is composed of two people, is named "Jian", and the two ☰ ☷ members are named "Shun", which confirms the statement that "Zhou Yi" is written as a "system of observations". Those ignorant people who deny hexagrams can't even see the door of "Zhou Yi".

Fourth, the training of the times "a gentleman with virtue"

The hexagram is the dispelling of Meng Dong's October, so "the gentleman carries things with virtue" is the monthly training of Meng Dong in October.

In the early hours of October, the appearance of the Ryoma in the east is called "Horse Zhizhen" in the hexagram and "Zhifang" in the hexagram.

Fang is the real name of Fangsu. All the "square" characters in "Elephant" actually allude to the house.

"Straight", that is, to see the green dragon house. Only by understanding this celestial phenomenon can we truly understand the meaning of "virtuous things".

What is Virtue?

Baoxuezhai has proved that in "Zhou Yi" and "Elephant", all the words "de" have one and only one meaning, that is, "Fu".

There is Fu Hui I De. - "Zhou Yi Yi"

"Fu" and "Fu" are the most subtle puns in the book "Zhou Yi". All the "Fu" in the silk books are written as "Fu", which can be described as a breakthrough.

Coincidentally, the East Palace Qinglong Fangsu itself is the incarnation of Tianxing, which is characterized by "Fu", that is, "Fu".

Therefore, when the gentleman "straight" saw the celestial phenomenon of the hexagram "seeing the frost", he naturally thought of the heavenly virtue of "Fu (Fu)".

Virtue requires a gentleman to be "obedient".

The Zisi School's "Cheng Zhi Wenzhi" said:

The villain is often against the avenue, and the gentleman governs the people with the virtues of the sky. ”

"Elephant" also said when interpreting the hexagram "Sheng":

"The gentleman is Shunde, and the small is tall."

As the true author of "Elephant" and "Zhou Yi", Zisi's "Fu (Fu)" is synonymous with "sincerity".

Honesty is the way of heaven and man of Zisi, and it is also the heavenly virtue that a gentleman must be "obedient".

In "The Mean", Zi Si wrote this paragraph about the way of sincerity, which perfectly explains what it means to be "virtuous".

Sincerity is interestless, non-stop is long, long is long, long is long, long is broad, broad is wise. Bo Hou, so the load also;...... The way of heaven and earth, Bo also, thick also, high also, Ming also, leisurely also, long also. ...... Today's land, a handful of soil, and its vastness, carry Huayue but not heavy, revitalize the river and sea without leaking, and all things are loaded.

"Bohou with land", "Bohou so carry things"......

All of this revolves around the image of the "earth" of the hexagram.

Coincidentally, the thick character of "Houde", the ancient text is "Yuan", from the back soil.

The land is the image of the hexagram, and the back soil is ☷ the god of the land.
