How can I improve my IELTS score!!

When doing application services for my friends, I will always encounter students asking such questions.

Many students spend a lot of time looking for materials and preparing for the exam, just trying to get a good score in the exam, but they always feel that their revision method is wrong and they can't get a high score.

In order to avoid detours, today I will share some IELTS preparation tips and methods to help students win IELTS in one fell swoop!

How do I prepare for IELTS?

First of all, let's have a brief understanding of IELTS.

IELTS, the full name of the International English Testing System (IELTS), is one of the well-known international standardized English proficiency tests. IELTS was established in 1989 and is administered by the British Council, Cambridge Examinations and the Australian Agency for International Development (IDP).

How do I prepare for IELTS?

As the most globally recognized international English language test, IELTS is recognized by more than 10,000 institutions in more than 140 countries and regions around the world, and more than 3 million people take the IELTS test every year.

In summary, the essence of IELTS: an English language proficiency test for people who are preparing to study or work in countries and regions where English is the language of communication.

vocabulary

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is the foundation of the problem!

If you want to get an IELTS score of 6.5, you need to have a vocabulary of at least 5000 or more, and if you want to get a high score of 7.5, you need to accumulate at least 8000 words.

How do I prepare for IELTS?

The IELTS test is composed of 4 parts: listening, reading, speaking and writing, and these 4 individual parts also have corresponding vocabulary requirements, such as the reading part of the vocabulary must reach at least 7000, the writing part must reach at least 3000, and the speaking and listening parts are generally required to be 3000~5000.

It is very difficult to improve your vocabulary in a short period of time, so you need to accumulate it persistently. It is best to read the article intensively after doing the questions, review and sort out unfamiliar words, and review them in a planned manner.

The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago, followed by now, so it doesn't matter if you were slacking off before, from now on, be strict with yourself, and punch in the word!

Listening

How do I prepare for IELTS?

Those students who want to play and learn through the combination of work and rest in American dramas and British dramas!

Wake up!!

Although American dramas can exercise our listening and language sense, can you control your hands to click on the next episode? Can you think of English-related content when watching dramas? Or do you only remember the plot?

Back to business. There are four IELTS listening sections, Part 1 is a two-person daily conversation, Part 2 is usually a monologue (sometimes a two-person conversation), and Part3 and Part4 are two-person conversations and mini lectures on related academic topics respectively.

The characteristics of IELTS listening are, firstly, that there are many dialects in the material, and that the accent is relatively strong, and secondly, it requires the recording of the details of the conversation, such as the phone number pronounced, the geographical location described, and even the words in the dialogue.

Exam Preparation Tips:

  • Listen intensively to past questions and corpus, and be familiar with vocabulary expressions with high frequency. When accumulating vocabulary, you should also pay attention to the pronunciation of words.
  • IELTS listening questions are given in advance, so before the listening begins, you should review the questions, roughly grasp the context of the listening text, predict the content that may appear before and after the questions, and get nervous before and after the keywords. At the same time, pay attention to the grasp of emotional bias, pay attention to whether it is a positive attitude or a negative attitude, and better replace synonyms.
  • Practice shorthand skills, concisely and clearly record key words and sentences in the content of the text during the listening process, and learn the shorthand method of simultaneous interpretation.

READING

Reading is generally three passages, including multiple-choice questions, true/false/not given questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, matching questions, and List of Heading questions, which are a headache for many candidates.

01

Fill-in-the-blank questions:

The words filled in the blanks in this section are usually the original words of the article and appear in the order in which the article is read.

Therefore, it is not necessary to fully understand the article, as long as the answer sentence is located according to the person's name/proper noun/time/place in the question stem, and the candidate words are determined according to the part of speech and the judgment is made, you can easily get the question right in a short time.

02

True or False:

Many students will be troubled by how to distinguish between F and NG.

  • F indicates that the article and the stem are completely opposite, and there must be sufficient evidence to disprove the stem.
  • NG means that the content of the stem may be correct, but the article does not prove that he is right. In the same way, we cannot conclude that he is wrong. In many cases, the NG stem will also make over-inferences, and in these cases the answer will be NG.

03

Paragraph matching questions:

In this section, read through the passage, summarize the main idea of the passage in short sentences, and match the sentences in the options.

Be careful not to rely on the repetition of the original words and sentences, the answers are generally not found in the original text, they are replaced with similar meanings to the original text, and will not be positioned.

Exam Preparation Tips:

  • Consciously exercise the ability of speed reading and keyword grabbing, and be able to quickly locate the specific paragraph of the article through the stem information.
  • Exercise the ability to analyze long and difficult sentences, because difficult sentences not only appear in the original reading text, but also appear in fill-in-the-blank questions, true or false questions and other question stems, involving sentence transformation and content comprehension, and many test points are in long and difficult sentences.
  • Accumulating synonymous substitution of high-frequency vocabulary, IELTS listening and reading is a favorite ability to test, especially in fill-in-the-blank and true/false questions.
  • Broaden your reading and enjoy daily access to the Global Times or BBC News.

composition

WRITING

The IELTS essay is two essays in 1 hour, which we call the small essay and the large essay.

Small essay chart questions have high requirements for students' analytical ability and logical thinking ability, and the question types are varied. The big essay is also an argumentative essay with a variety of question types, and the writing mode is quite flexible.

The composition mainly examines four parts: relevance, coherence and cohesion, vocabulary expression, and grammar.

Exam Preparation Tips:

  • To learn the logical dialectical method in the model text, it is necessary to interlock with each other, rather than simply listing ideas.
  • During the preparation period, pay attention to the development trends and hot topics of today's society.
  • Accumulate advanced vocabulary for synonymous substitution. Note the diversity of synonym expressions.
  • Pay attention to the examination of the topic, and do not repeat and vague expressions, unclear logic, and empty language

colloquial

SPEAKING

The IELTS Speaking test is conducted face-to-face with an examiner, usually for 15 minutes, and will be scored on the basis of your pronunciation standard, fluency and coherence, vocabulary variety, grammatical diversity and accuracy. Generally, it is divided into three parts: personal introduction, simple Q&A, personal statement and in-depth discussion.

Exam Preparation Tips:

  • When preparing for the exam, you should accumulate more materials, but it is recommended not to memorize the template, the oral test is more about language communication ability, what you have to do is to clarify the logic in the language expression, try to use advanced vocabulary, prepare some fixed universal sentences, and use them as transitions during the exam to prolong the thinking time.
  • During the exam, relax yourself and don't be nervous. It is advisable to reduce the speed of speech to be fluent and clear.
  • Listen and read more, mimicking authentic pronunciation and language habits as well as mouth shapes. It is also possible to find practice partners to become proficient in the language in practice.
